The sort of five-set crucible in which champions are forged?

Or evidence of a man whose credentials don't quite add up to Sunday afternoon success?

Milos Raonic has edged ahead in the deciding set of an epic against David Goffin.

You can watch the finale of that one just over here.

    Murray 5-4 Kyrgios *

High class tennis from both men, jabs exchanged from the baseline, haymakers to follow, Murray with a who, me? disguised drop-shot, Kyrgios screaming at the silent heavens when a forehand at 30-30 eats net. The Aussie to hold serve to stay in the set.

Here we go - Murray with the inside-out forehand cross-court, 0-30. Thrashing serve from Kyrgios, now a series of rapier forehands to leave Murray stranded. Ouch - 138 mph serve down the middle, followed by another grass-scorcher at 134 mph. It's not so much cat and mouse as lion and cheetah.

Crowd-pleaser of a hold to love from Murray, the movement splendid, the tactical brain whirring - in with a backhand dropper, Kyrgios chasing, Murray stretching out wide to dink the backhand volley into the exposed areas.

That was a solid effort from Kyrgios with some good serving but that forehand has got some serious pop to it.

Mmm - Kyrgios to the net behind a punchy deep volley, and Murray floats the most delightful forehand lob up and over his stranded opponent. 30-30, the merest sniff, quickly snuffed out with the aid of those car-crusher serves.

"That hot-dog shot which Nick Kyrgios plays is like when a diver goes for the hardest jump possible. Others would take the easier option - but it's good to watch, that's for sure."

Lovely rhythm on some of these rallies, Murray using the two-handed backhand punched down the line, dragging his opponent out wide, trying to expose the backhand that was once considered a weakness.

Kyrgios on the charge, serving flat and fast out wide, moving with liquid pace to the net. That slightly strange sulphur glow around Centre under the roof/lights, the colour coming from the summer-dressed punters all around. Can't move for floral blouses.

I like when Murray takes the pace off the ball and then really leans into one.

It makes it seem like the ball is coming even quicker.

    Murray 2-1 Kyrgios *

I've just been shown some somewhat surprising images of the young Nick Kyrgios. Carrying a fair amount of Aussie timber, the kid from Canberra. Murray on serve, in the groove, Kyrgios flashing a whippy forehand long.
