Halep definitely made more effort to be aggressive in that game.

She didn't have the mind set of just spinning the first serve in.

Tomas Berdych finally converts a match point at the eighth time of asking to book in for a quarter-final against French mystery package Lucas Pouille.

Berdych was runner-up at Wimbledon in 2011, but has not been as deep since.

  7. 'We will respect Murray's Davis Cup decision'published at 13:42 British Summer Time 5 July 2016

Andy Murray was one of five players named by Great Britain for this month's Davis Cup tie with Serbia in Belgrade, although the world number two will not confirm his involvement until after Wimbledon.

Britain's Davis Cup captain Leon Smith spoke to BBC Radio 5 live:

"It’s a brutal schedule. To turn around from Wimbledon, fly over to another country and change surface, it's not easy."

Will Murray play in the Davis Cup?

"He wanted to be named in the initial team. He loves the competition. At the moment the most important thing for him is Wimbledon. He has to see how he feels. If he says he can't do this then of course we'll respect it."

We've already seen our first clenched fist-pump of the afternoon here in Court One. And why not. Yaroslava Shvedova, aiming to reach her first Slam semi-final, saves two break points to get herself off the hook against five-time champion Venus Williams.

Just one hold of serve in the opening nine service games.

It is getting a little silly now.

Just bung it in underarm perhaps? Certainly the overhead action that has served players well for more than 100 years seems to be broken this afternoon on Centre Court.

Jonathan Hextall: Kerber Halep is a great match so far. It's a break fest but the rallies are incredible and entertaining.

Theo Bowyer: Halep and Kerber have certainly brought their protractors to the court judging by the incredible angles they are finding!

    Guess what?

Service holds are rarer than hen's teeth as Simona Halep finds herself 0-40 adrift, battles back to 30-40 and then plants a shoulder-high mid-court bounce into the net.

It should have been routine. Inside she will have to break to stay in the set.

It is a magical mysterious tour of an opening set as Simona Halep takes it back on serve - in theory at least - with another break.

Everywhere you look down at Aorangi Park today there are male Grand Slam winners. Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Marian Cilic. Even John McEnroe breezes past after a lunchtime hit. No wonder the selfie hunters are out in force.

Federer, ever the man of the people, is unruffled. "Rogerrrrrrrrrr! Pleeeeease?!" is the standard request. Not a problem.

The seven-time champ poses with tens of fans, including many junior players, before disappearing off home. Despite spending about 10 minutes dealing with the requests, many of still left disappointed when he disappears down the steps.

Kerber had only been broken three times coming into the match and now she has been broken twice already today.

She have to be more careful where she places the serve and not be too predictable.

I think those stats will change win or lose today.
