Serena is working so hard to get to the ball as early as possible giving Kerber far less opportunity to do the same.

That is great intent from Serena.

The crowd are collecting their encouragement around Angelique Kerber as the German attempts to keep Serena within range.

A glorious pass reply to a drop-shot takes the game to 40-30.

But Serena is too strong and the decibel levels never rises that high again.

Angelique Kerber finds a clever angle to drag Serena Willilams out towards the front row of seats.

That is not neighourhood that the world number one enjoys spending much time in.

Her attempt to batter a winner down the line, ricochets off the net post and wide.

This is the Serena: Warrior Princess show.

The defending champion is wielding the racquet like an axe, swinging hard and true as if winning that first set has given her a shot of confidence.

Angelique Kerber needs to step up a gear to keep in touch.

Serena has got so much heart, determination and will even when she wasn't playing her best she has figured out a way to get it done.

You get little margin for error against Serena Williams. Certainly not enough for Angelique Kerber there.

The German tugs a forehand long and then a backhand wide. Two back-to-back errors under no pressure hands two break and set points to Serena under no pressure.

Kerber saves the first, but a slapping forehand into the far corner pulls her out of position and she can only fend into the net.

I'm not sure what the spread is on the number of mentions that Serena's serve is going to get by the end of this match. Quite high I would expect.

But it deserves every second of discussion.

It a wrecking ball of a shot and gets her out of some 15-30 bother with the groundstrokes not having to get out of bed.

Angelique Kerber is getting plenty of free points off the Williams ground strokes.

The German watches carefully as the Williams serve slides long for 30-0.

Serena finds her range to take one point but that is all she is getting.

Serena Williams takes a nasty little tumble as she stretches for a backhand out wide.

The salt in the sprain is watching from the floor as Kerber rolls a winner into the unguarded court for 40-30.

A dream of a drop-shot, loaded with backspin, has tapped twice before Serena has even got out of her blocks.

But, Serena falls back on her whipcrack serve to see out the danger.

It is great to see Kerber come out with the mindset thinking she can win this match.

It isn't always the case when a player comes out against Serena in a major final.
