Angelique Kerber pulled off quite a feat at Melbourne Park in January.

The German stunned Serena William to win her first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.

Kerber, seeded seventh in the competition, won a thrilling final 6-4 3-6 6-4.

The 28-year-old became the first German to win a major singles title since Steffi Graf at the 1999 French Open.

And Williams, 34, was beaten for just the fifth time in 26 Grand Slam finals.

During the first week they are abuzz and athud with the sounds of ball on string.

Now the nets are down on some courts and only a handful of juniors are patting around on the ones that are set up.
