This is better, much better. I would say Monfils is having a second wind, but he didn't have much of a first wind.

He holds his serve, and then something else we weren't expecting as Djokovic needs some medical treatment with the physio coming on to check out his left shoulder.

After a very short break, we are able to carry on. Monfils one game from the set, Djokovic to serve next.

    Anyone see this coming? Anyone?

Twenty minutes again Djokovic was probably thinking about the game being over quickly, but a rejuvenated Monfils breaks the serve, that is now four games in a row for the Frenchman.

It has taken him more than an hour to get going, but now we have a match on. Don't go anywhere.

Now we are starting to see a glimpse of the Gael Monfils we are used to.

He jumps high to keep the ball alive and then slides in across the hard-court surface to just get his racquet to send a stylish winner into the open court. Two break point Monfils.

Finally we are getting something from Gael Monfils. It just did not happen for him in the first two sets, but now there is a bit of emotion, a bit of fight, a bit of hope.

He holds his serve and from this match looking finished and Monfils appearing to be mentally wiped out, he is standing there with a third set lead. OK, it is just on serve, but it might just be the psychological boost he needs.

A scream, a punch of the air follows. This match is being given the kiss of life it so desperately needed.

It must be a strange situation for Djokovic as his opponent has not produced anything that he would have expected.

Djokovic has to stay professional, but soon finds himself two break points down. Is this the spark Monfils needs to get a foothold in this game? A defensive return on the first break point sees that chance wasted.

But then... a delicate drop shot from Djokovic sees Monfils running up to the net and he slides in for a dramatic winner.

We are back on serve in set three. Some of the fans that were booing Monfils only 10 minutes before are now cheering him. He stands there with a hand raised in the middle of the court in a 'come on, please support me' gesture. A few more shots like that will certainly get the rest of the fans cheering for him again.

The fans were hoping for a thrilling match at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, but they have got a procession so far. Monfils does at least hold his serve, but, remember, Djokovic, two sets to love ahead, still has a break of serve in the third.

Just a reminder, we have Stan Wawrinka taking on Kei Nishikori in the second semi-final later on.

So what has happened to Monfils? Is the humidity getting to him, has he frozen on the big stage, is the fact he has never beaten his opponent in 12 attempts causing mental anguish or is Djokovic just simply far, far too good?

Maybe a combination of all of them.

Djokovic moves 2-0 ahead with an overhead smash that Monfils does well to get a racquet on, but he can not control the direction and it is another game in the books for the champion.

The home fans are beginning to turn against Gael Monfils with boos ringing around the arena as he loses his serve in the opening game of the third set.

It is a semi-final, but there is no intensity, no atmosphere and no pressure applied from the Frenchman. Djokovic is doing what he has to and this match looks a foregone conclusion already.

I thought this would be interesting, I hoped it would be close but I suspect it will be over very, very quickly.

It has been awful as a spectacle. It has been very bad for the sport.

One hour and five minutes in and Djokovic is two sets up after winning his service game to love.

With Djokovic one point from the set, Monfils sprints into the net, but a lob sends him jumping in the air and he is spun around. Djokovic has the rest of the court to aim into and his winner sees him take the set.

Monfils looks in pain as he hobbles off to take his seat. Two sets down, stifling humidity, potentially carrying a knock, this is going to be some fightback if it happens.

    *Djokovic 6-3 5-2 Monfils

Two double faults in his service game, but Monfils still does enough to take his second game of the set.

It is humid and the conditions are tough. Can Monfils force his way back into the set? You would be a brave person to bet on that.

We said Djokovic has had an easy time this tournament, and he is having an easy time today.

Too many unforced errors from Monfils, who has no response to the variety of Djokovic's forehand and nothing the Frenchman tries is working. Djokovic is one game away from the set, but it looks a matter of time.

John Michael Poole: What is going on here? The most bizarre match I've ever seen. Monfils is either injured or he wants his prize money revoking

Alice Stainer: Love it when the game of #tennis can still confound its sagest commentators. #Sport can endlessly surprise, one of its many gifts

Hennie Inglis: The throwing-your-toys-out-of-the-pram method is the strategy Monfils is using to try and beat Djokovic? C'mon, just play tennis.

    *Djokovic 6-3 4-1 Monfils

From 0-30 on his serve, Monfils forces his way back to 30-30 before an extravagant, powerful cross-court backhand can only hit the top of the net to give Djokovic another break point.

Monfils drags his next shot wide and Djokovic is storming ahead once again.

Monfils may not be officially beaten, but he already looks mentally defeated.
