So how have we got here? Novak Djokovic has spent a lot more time with his feet up than expected, while Gael Monfils has been very impressive, not dropping a set in his five matches.
Good evening and welcome to BBC Sport's live text commentary from the US Open men's semi-finals as Novak Djokovic plays Gael Monfils before Stan Wawrinka takes on Kei Nishikori, the man who ended Andy Murray's hopes.
Novak Djokovic has never had it so easy.
Three times in five matches his opponents have withdrawn or pulled out through injury as he has coasted into the US Open semi-finals.
He has reached the US Open final in five of the last six years, winning the title on two occasions, and has only lost two Grand Slam matches since the start of 2015.
Unstoppable? Surprise semi-finalist Gael Monfils hopes he is the man to beat the world number one, but he will have to do something he has never done before. Today would be a great time to claim his first win over Djokovic.
