    Leo Mayer and Dan Evans

The stadium PA man asks the Emirates Arena crowd to raise the roof for Dan Evans.

    It duly obliges.

Evans has strolled out, looking like he is turning up for a Sunday morning bit of tap-and-giggle.

Mayer comes to the court, bouncing off his toes and off the walls.

Both are bearing the weight of a nation's expectations.

It is a staggering decision. I cannot understand why Del Potro played the doubles.

Why wouldn't you give yourself 24 hours more to see if he could play today?

He would have been the overwhelming favourite against Dan Evans and now it is a 50 50 match.

All of a sudden Dan goes from being a 30 70 chance to win to now it is 50 50.

I don't know how it will play with his mindset. I am sure Dan will have thought he was playing Del Potro

You would have to say with the home crowd Dan Evans is the favourite to win this match.

  5. Evans v Mayerpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 18 September 2016

    Evans v Mayer

So, this tale of the tape reads a lot better for Great Britain than it would with big Juan.

Dan Evans is ranked 53rd in the world compared to Leonardo Mayer's 114th spot.

The recent form favours Evans as well.

The Birmingham man is coming into this on the back of a run to the third round of the US Open where he came within a point of beating the eventual champion Stan Wawrinka.

Mayer meanwhile has been knocking about on the Challenger Tour. He has lost seven of his last nine matches at the top level.

He looked in decent nick in the doubles though it has to be said.

  6. Mayer to play Evans in final rubberpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 18 September 2016

The word is out in the Glasgow Emirates press box.

It will be Leonardo Mayer rather than Juan Martin del Potro who contests the final singles rubber for Argentina.

    Massive news.

Andi: Thanks to @andy_murray for all you give to us with your tennis

Sho Rahman: Argentina shot themselves in the foot by playing DelPo yesterday. Why not save him for singles where he would be clear favourite?

Nadine Erskine: YES!! Well done @andy_murray You're INCREDIBLE! A warrior!

  8. Who plays for Argentina?published at 15:31 British Summer Time 18 September 2016

I think the Davis Cup Twitter account is overestimating our character acting skills, but it seems that the Argentina team is still mulling over whether to shove an ailing Juan Martin del Potro out onto court or the fresher Leonardo Mayer.

That was a real class performance from Andy Murray.

He was no doubt fatigued but he withstood the charge from Pella who was brimming with confidence from Friday.

    Andy was just too solid.

Andy Murray after his win: "It is great to level the tie. We were in lot of trouble a couple of days ago but his is the best we could have hoped for. Now dan has got a chance to go out and get the job done.

"I have a lot of sharp pain in my right quad. I have to go and see what's up and get some treatment. I need a break. I have played so much tennis, my body needs some rest.

"It makes a huge difference for all of us playing in front of this crowd. We have had some great moments here in Glasgow, we need all the support for the next one.

"Del Potro is great player. Dan he is difficult to play against. He almost beat Wawrinka and if he plays at that level he has got a chance."

He is expecting to be Dan Evans against Juan Martin del Potro.

We are still awaiting confirmation as to who will be lining up for Argentina though.

    Full quotes to come.

Andy Murray slaps palms with the rest of the Great Britain team after the pleasantries with Guido Pella. He looks drained, practically translucent.

His job is done. The tie is level. We are in a one-rubber shoot-out.

And the British number one will be a spectator with the rest of us.

Two brassy bold raids to the net bring up 30-0, before Andy Murray rolls a delicious dead-eyed forehand away for 40-0.

The hold to love is complete.

Guido Pella is yet lay much leather on the Briton's serve.

He serves to keep his micro-hopes alive in the next.

Andy Murray clatters a venomous cross-court backhand to bring up 15-40 and two break points.

This could really be closing time at the last-chance saloon for Guido Pella.

Murray is just a whisker long down the line with the Argentine out of the frame though and then on the ugly end of a big serve.

    Deuce though.
