    *Evans 4-3 Mayer

Leonardo Mayer's serve is a beefy stroke.

He thumps down his third ace of the match to hold to love. The damage is already on the scoreboard though.

Dan Evans just needs to hold serve twice more to carry the set.

    Evans 4-2 *Mayer

Dan Evans keeps lining up service games and knocking them down.

He is still yet to face a break point and is across the line once again as Leonardo Mayer frames a forehand into the heavens.

Andy Murray is down on courtside to lend his voice to the 8000 others who will be roaring on Evans.

All in now for Great Britain.

    *Evans 3-2 Mayer

Leonardo Mayer wallops just long with another shot to nothing for 30-30.

Oh, Lady Luck is wearing a Union jack tonight.

Dan Evans' backhand tussles with the net cord and slips over to bring up break point.

Mayer rains down some service fire to pull it back from the edge.

Another ripper lands in from the Argentine to claw the game his way.

Ten unforced errors from Mayer so far compared to just three for Evans.

  5. Murray gets the job donepublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 18 September 2016

Why are we still here? Because an exhausted Andy Murray saw off Guido Pella to force this fifth and final rubber...

Dan Evans backs up the break with a hold.

The 26-year-old has a tattoo on his arm quoting Oscar Wilde.

"Every saint has a past, every sinner has a future," it reads.

What will the immediate future have in store for him?

I am a bit surprised how aggressive Mayer has been in these early games.

He is obviously trying to get Dan Evans on the back foot.

Every time he gets the chance he is going for the big shot.

Dan Evans did not have to do much to get over the line there.

He just kept putting the ball back into play and watched as Leonardo Mayer - who is rolling big - overshot with death-or-glory attempted winners.

  9. Third break point to Evanspublished at 16:12 British Summer Time 18 September 2016

    Evans 1-1 *Mayer

Leonardo Mayer is being put through the wringer in this service game.

He double-faults on one game point. And then flops wide on a second.

    Dan Evans is still circling.

A third break point on the board...

  10. Mayer saves two break points, deucepublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 18 September 2016

    Evans 1-1 *Mayer

Leonardo Mayer's mind writes a cheque that his forehand can't cash as he loads up and hooks wide to hand Dan Evans 15-30.

A cagey exchange on the next rally. Dan Evans steps in, presses an angle and Mayer muffs a backhand into the net.

    Two break points Evans.

The first saved with some canny percentage tennis.

The second bagged by a big serve from Mayer.

    Deuce.

Leonardon Mayer with the hands of an master potter as he curves and teases a remarkable lob over the top of Dan Evans for 15-30.

That was really a sumptuous shot.

The Argentine gets a little carried away on the back of it though and flashes long on the next point.

    Evans makes his escape.

Very even in the opening exchanges with both men threatening the other's serve.

The first few points didn't have the feel of a Davis Cup deciding match.

You would expect them to be nervy but they both came out striking the ball early on.

    *Evans 0-1 Mayer

An impeccable point from Dan Evans as he forces Leonardo Mayer out wide and slaps the mid-court bounce back the other way for a winner and 30-30.

Leonardo Mayer snuffs out the next point at source with a big serve.

Into the rally on the next, Dan Evans tries to mix it up with a little backhand slice, but his shot is snared by the net.

No break of serve, but some promising signs for the Briton.

This is where Leon Smith can play a part.

Dan will have ups and downs, it is a five set match, Leon can tell him you have got 8,000 people behind you every step of the way.

I would rather the home player than away player.

I would expect Dan to be very aggressive early on.

  17. Del Potro on the sidelinespublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 18 September 2016

    Juan Martin del Porto

Juan Martin del Potro was absent from the sidelines in the first rubber of the day, keeping up the pretense that he was going to play in the second.

He has returned now to see Leonardo Mayer play his part in the denouement,

Del Potro's failure to play in the final rubber does not seem to have gone down well back home.

My Spanish is not good, and, after a quick look, I don't think the replies to this tweet by Argentine newspaper Ole would have gone down well in my GCSE oral exam.

Drew Kendall: Think Dan Evans could easily win. Might be through already had he played the second single match Friday

Lorraine Gronan: Let do this @Evo151216 I know you can do it. Bring it home for GB.
