    Konta 6-5 Flipkens*

A few deep breaths from Konta as she sits down between games, eyes transfixed on a point in front of her as the British number one gathers her thoughts.

We're 50 minutes in, and the world number nine powers a smash into Flipkens to win the point.

    Konta 6-5 Flipkens*

And there's another break point chance for Konta. She plays the point superbly to open up the court to the left of Flipkens and guide a forehand winner into the space.

She lands a backhand right on the line from the next shot, but the line judge changes her mind and it's a let when Konta could have had the break.

The Brit gets it eventually though, as Flipkens' sliced volley is wide. Konta with the chance to serve out the set.

    *Konta 5-5 Flipkens

There was an anxious glance behind her there from Konta as she leaves a Flipkens pass and the ball drops narrowly beyond the baseline.

There's a little bit of breeze on the court too now, which I'm sure the players will welcome in this heat.

Flipkens moves into a 30-15 lead, but then smashes a backhand straight into the bottom of the net.

    *Konta 5-5 Flipkens

Big, big chance missed from Flipkens. She has all the time in the world to place a forehand beyond a stranded Konta at the net, but catches the white tape.

Konta, who is looking to come into the net on every point, is then beaten in an almost identical situation as Flipkens earns a fourth break point.

And this one she takes. The Belgian's lobbed effort didn't quite have the height but it was good enough that Konta couldn't direct her return on target.

    Konta 5-4 Flipkens*

Well now it's Flipkens in with a chance to break.

Having dragged herself back to deuce she gives Konta the runaround before dashing towards centre court and finishing her smash with aplomb.

Konta finds her length with a backhand effort, but it's another break point opportunity for the Belgian after a wayward forehand.

    Konta 5-4 Flipkens*

A slice backhand from Flipkens goes very long and again Konta has the chance to finish off the set.

She comes into the net, but is left in no man's land as Flipkens reads the volley and just dabs a winner past the Brit.

    Konta 5-4 Flipkens*

Flipkens has played a couple of well-executed lobbed defensive shots so far in this game, and she thinks she's pulled another off only to have it ruled out on the review.

That gives Konta the advantage and chance to win the set. She pushes the Belgian deep with a succession of backhands but then can only put a tame forehand effort into the net. Back to deuce.

    Konta 5-4 Flipkens*

Konta pulls it back to 30-30 and takes a deep breath as she looks to close this set out, but a first double fault of the game from the ninth seed gives Flipkens a shot at a break point.

The Brit comes up with a big serve when needed though, straight into the body of Flipkens who goes long to make it deuce.

    Konta 5-4 Flipkens*

So, it's Johanna Konta with the chance to serve for the first set.

She seemed to have got her eye in with that backhand after a couple of mishit efforts in the opening few games, but the 25-year-old hits successive shots long on that side to make it six points in a row for Flipkens.

The next one doesn't miss, all the top spin in the world as Konta dips low to get underneath the shot and fire it beyond Flipkens. 15-30.

It's a great line-up today with four Britons in action, and three of them on Margaret Court Arena, plus Milos Raonic against the ever-entertaining Dustin Brown.

    Konta 5-4 Flipkens*

Konta misses the chance to move onto a break point when a Flipkens forehand lands near her feet. The Belgian then sends down her second ace of the match to make it 30-30.

She follows that up with an important volleyed winner, and from looking like she was about to take the set Konta ends up losing the game.

    *Konta 5-3 Flipkens

Great approach play from Konta to work Flipkens around the court eventually forces the Belgian into an error as her forehand catches the net.

And the British number one then takes the game with time to dance around a poorly placed Flipkens return and hammer it beyond her opponent for the game.

    Konta 4-3 Flipkens*

New balls. And It's Konta who immediately capitalises on her own serve. The ninth seed has given very little to Flipkens in her service games so far.

She moves into a 30-0 lead, but then a nice chunk of frame during a rally the Brit looked in control of gives Flipkens a way back into the game at 30-15.

    Konta 4-3 Flipkens*

Audacious from Flipkens with Konta on three break points.  A deft drop shot that has Konta scrambling, but it pays off as the Brit is unable to lift her return over the net.

Flipkens pulls it back to 30-40, but some aggressive tennis from Konta secures the first break as she forces the world number 70 deep beyond her own baseline to win the point.

    *Konta 3-3 Flipkens

With 19 minutes played it's Konta who's making the early inroads in this game, chance for a first break?

She goes 0-30 up and then a crosscourt Flipkens forehand is called wide. The Belgian thinks otherwise, but the line judges were correct. Break point Konta.

    *Konta 3-3 Flipkens

Flipkens, sun glasses and head band on, has no answer to a ruthless Konta on serve. She's only dropped two points on her serve so far and quickly levels this match.

    Konta 2-3 Flipkens*

Great play from Konta, her pink shoes scuttling across the court to send Flipkens this way and that before hammering home a forehand winner on the volley.

Flipkens' defence has been good thus far, but Konta comes up with a huge backhand down the line this time that the Belgian can only watch and admire.

    Konta 2-3 Flipkens*

Neither player has looked like breaking so far, and Flipkens efficiently dispatches Konta with another big service game to love.

No messing from the Belgian, who must feel it's too hot to engage in any meaningful rally.

    *Konta 2-2 Flipkens

A few more spectators enter the arena between that break in games, and they're just in time to see Konta send Flipkens wide with a powerful serve and follow up with a well-placed volley at the net to win the point.

The Brit takes it to 40-0 with another big serve, before losing a fly up her skirt. That's not a distraction we're used to seeing!

No bother for Konta. She swishes the fly away, steps up to the service line and sends down an ace.
