Pressure? Inglot thumps down an opening serve that can't be directed back to safety, replicating it for 30-0.

    Uh oh. Here's the pressure...

Pospisil finally sticks strings on ball as Murray volleys into the net, Canada drawing level at 30-30 when Nestor whips back a forehand winner.

And then Inglot hits the net after a brief rally. A set point sneaks out of the shadows to pounce on the British pair...

Daniel Nestor looks at total ease out there. He rattles out a service game quicker than it takes to boil a quarter-full kettle, putting the pressure onto Dom Inglot...

  7. 'Mental match'published at 18:47 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2017

From GB, the signs are very encouraging so far - when they get their racquet on the ball, they’re making returns, Dom Inglot in particular. This is such a mental match and it’s so important not to be disheartened, because you never know when the chance will come and you need to be razor-sharp ready.

    *Canada 5-5 Great Britain

Jamie Murray is tasked with keeping GB in this opening set. He's helped by Nestor spanking a crosscourt forehand well over the sideline, then hammering down an ace. He's supposed to be the weakest server out there too. And Nestor finding mesh at 40-0 means Muzza has only dropped one point on serve!

    Canada 5-4 Great Britain*

Sealed with an ace. Vasek Pospisil rattles through another quick service game, holding to love with a crackerjack out wide.

Few words exchanged between Murray and Inglot at the changeover, both fellas towelling down their sweaty brows.

Cracking atmosphere in Ottawa by the way. Although that goes without saying these days in the Davis Cup doesn't it? It's like a middle-class darts.

Dom Inglot serves up a double fault which evens up the score at 15-15, Canada then dragging back their British rivals to 30-30.

Pospisil clubs a forehand wide for 40-30 before Dom the Bomb drops a mighty service winner.

    Canada 4-3 Great Britain*

Vasek Pospisil lifts himself off the hook. The Canadian shows his doubles pedigree, rediscovering his net game to volley away the break point and see his team home.

First mini-battle won by the hosts.

    *Canada 3-3 Great Britain

"That might be longest rally we see in the whole match," quips John Lloyd. Seven shots.

That net showdown between Inglot and Pospisil ends when the Canadian sticks a volley long, then another, then another.

First break point of the match...

  13. 'Second-serve returns key'published at 18:33 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2017

    John Lloyd
Former GB Davis Cup captain on BBC Two

When you’re playing on a court with this speed and a player misses a first serve, you’re thinking I’ve got to make this return somehow – because there won’t be too many returns of first serves.

    *Canada 3-3 Great Britain

Jamie Murray's first serve goes awry, instantly piling the pressure on. Nestor smacks a winner for 0-15, Murray smacking an overhead at Pospisil's body as the lanky Canadian ducks for cover. That's not very nice, is it?!

Good hands from Murray at the net puts British noses in front, a cross-court forehand from Nestor clipping the net and whizzing out of play.

And Murray and Inglot clean up when Pospisil puts too much beef into a baseline return.

The Stirling University Barmy Army are full of beans in the TD Place Arena. Standing, singing, whacking drums and, inexplicably, even some grooving from one older gent. He must be one of the lecturers.

Their efforts don't help Murray and Inglot make any in-roads into the Canadian serve though. As you were.

Here's the Dom the Bomb's first chance to detonate a whole bit of bother over Canada.

Ah. A nervous start from Inglot puts the Canadians 0-15 ahead. He spreads his Inspector Gadget-like into the air to smash down a winner for 15-15, then blasts down a 133mph serve which almost breaks Daniel Nestor's wrists.

Boom! Another hefty serve flies past the baseline without a touch as he seals the hold with an ace.

    Canada 2-1 Great Britain*

I'm a big fan of Daniel Nestor's kit. All white, socks pulled up to his knees like a footballer. Maybe he's just played 90 minutes for Leeds United.

If he has then he's showing few signs of fatigue. The leftie serves up another comfortable hold, Vasek Pospisil pouncing on Jamie Murray's forehand return with a fly-swatting volley.

Jamie Murray has the ball in hand as Great Britain look to hit straight back. That they do. Another game, another hold to love. Shall we just start the tie-break now?

Exactly the sort of start that the home pair dreamed about last night. A hold-to-love. Vasek Pospisil's huge serve is too hot for the British boys to handle. They need oven gloves on their racquets. A net volley seals the game.
