    *Djokovic 2-2 Thiem

I hope Dominic Thiem is ready for a physical battle out there.

He's grunting on every one of his groundstrokes as a 23-shot rally goes Djokovic's way to see off a break point.

We know Djokovic is always up for a lung buster. He forces Thiem wider and wider on his backhand before switching attack to the forehand. The Austrian gets there though before smashing a backhand winner. Deuce again.

  2. Nadal breaks againpublished at 10:41 British Summer Time 7 June 2017

    *Nadal 5-1 Carreno Busta

Carreno Busta mixes things up with a serve and volley winner on the opening point, but Rafa responds with a trademark top-spinning forehand winner down the line. And it had more bend than a David Beckham free-kick.

That dents Carreno Busta's confidence, the 20th seed buckling with three more unforced winners to leave Nadal serving out for the set...

    *Djokovic 2-2 Thiem

Djokovic looks the player slightly more affected by the breeze in these early stages.

He loses the first point of his next service game as he's knocked off balance by a gust and then pauses between first and second serves a point later as he waits for the wind to drop.

Thiem senses the opportunity and keeps the ball in play, looping the ball with plenty of spin. He's right in this service game of Novak's again. Deuce.

    Nadal 4-1 Carreno Busta*

More breaks here than at your local fracture clinic. Four games, three service games lost.

Rafa, who only had his serve broken three times in his previous four matches, hits back instantly as a couple of unforced errors from Pablo Carreno Busta help him on his way.

A quick hold to 15 later and the fourth seed is in cruise control.

    *Djokovic 2-2 Thiem

Calm down ladies and gents, this is Novak Djokovic.

A 12-time Grand Slam champion doesn't get flustered at losing his serve.

The Serb breaks straight back, with the helping hand of some errors from his opponent.

    Djokovic 1-2 Thiem*

    What a point!

Dominic Thiem comes out on top of a rally packed with forehands, backhands, slices and spins.

A big confidence booster for the 23-year-old, an even bigger boost that it gives him the first break of serve.

  8. Carreno Busta breaks backpublished at 10:29 British Summer Time 7 June 2017

    Nadal 2-1 Carreno Busta*

Ominous signs? They've been blown away quicker than an empty crisp packet in this fierce Paris wind.

Two chances for Pablo Carreno Busta to get back on serve instantly... he only needs one.

The 20th seed has Nadal scampering across the baseline, a pounding inside-out forehand leaving the nine-time champion only able to bat a weak backhand into the net.

    Back on serve.

    *Djokovic 1-1 Thiem

We're greeted to the first bit of sunshine this morning on Lenglen but it won't do much to lighten Novak Djokovic's mood as he quickly falls down 0-40.

That might help, all three break points saved - the last coming with a volley at the net.

Here comes Thiem again though, another winner brings up another break point...

    *Nadal 2-0 Carreno Busta

Uh oh. The signs are already ominous for Pablo Carreno Busta.

The King of Clay has looked as commanding and sprightly as ever over the past 10 days in Paris - he ain't in the mood for abdicating just yet.

His groundstrokes are heavy, pounding Carreno Busta's backhand. Eventually the pressure tells.

Carreno Busta is wrongfooted by another whipping Rafa forehand winner on break point.

    *Djokovic 1-1 Thiem

A solid first service game from Dominic Thiem.

A couple of big forehand winners help him along the way. That shot will be crucial if he is to upset the defending champion today.

No sign of nerves early on from the Austrian in just his second Grand Slam quarter-final.

    Nadal 1-0 Carreno Busta*

These two are good pals off court and have been successful doubles partners, winning a title together in Beijing last year. Don't expect too many niceties when the ball is in play though.

A competitive start from 20th seed Carreno Busta, who has enjoyed an excellent clay-court season on his favoured surface.

He cracks a forehand winner on his way to 30-30, before Rafa puts his foot down to hold.

Over on Chatrier, Carreno Busta faces one of the toughest tests in sport, and the stats suggest Nadal is getting better. When the Spaniard is winning 77% of second serves, everyone else is in real trouble. His go-to shot of the tournament has been running around the backhand to fire his huge forehand into the opposite corner - expect Carreno Busta to do a lot of exploring the vast outer reaches of the Chatrier stadium.

    Djokovic 1-0 Thiem*

Djokovic safely overcomes that slight danger to get the first game under his belt.

Cue a ripple of applause from the crowd who are all well wrapped up in their anoraks.

    *Djokovic 0-0 Thiem

For all the talk of an upset, 23-year-old Dominic Thiem has only ever taken one set off Novak Djokovic in five meetings. He'll need three today to get through.

Djokovic gets us under way in front of a sparse crowd under grey skies but looks a little shaky. Three unforced errors and we're at deuce.

    *Nadal 0-0 Carreno Busta

Still a bit quiet on Chatrier. Only about a third full at a guess. Perhaps the Parisians are still tucking into their petit dejeuner.

Rafa grabs a few balls from the ball kid. The fourth seed to get us under way against his Spanish amigo Carreno Busta.

    Roland Garros

The skies are a lot more sympathetic above Roland Garros today but it is still blowing a gale, which has traditionally been a problem for Novak Djokovic. He has suffered a few big defeats in the wind and it could just unsettle him again as he searches for his best form. Thiem has been marked as the man to potentially to take out the champion since the draw was made - today is a huge test of his new-found status as a Grand Slam contender.

No rain, but like yesterday it is still windy out there. Who does that favour? Let us know at #bbctennis.

    20 games.

That is all four of the world's best tennis players have managed to take from Rafael Nadal in this year's French Open.

    Impressive.

Looking to become the first player in the Open era to win 10 titles at one Grand Slam, today the Spaniard plays compatriot Pablo Carreno Busta, the world number 21.

Nadal has spent three hours less time on court than Carreno Busta, can he be stopped?
