    *Murray 7-6 (8-6) 2-2 Wawrinka

Murray has been pretty quiet today. No chuntering like we saw in the first couple of rounds, no glares at his box.

We hear him roar "Come on!" as Wawrinka cracks a forehand into the mesh, then looks down to the red stuff when he crashes a forehand net volley into the net.

Another first pump after a forehand winner and he's back within a point of the game. And then he is beaten by another cruncher of a forehand from Stan.

Another deuce. How long has this game been going on for??

Murray's second serve has been easy for Wawrinka to pick off, the Brit winning just 56% of these points.

The Swiss third seed pounces on it again, nudging ahead with a backhand down the line for 0-15.

Murray wrestles his way back, going 30-15 ahead after a mammoth 24-shot rally which ends when Wawrinka goes long.

A couple of kids in the crowd are playing on their mobiles. You can't please everyone.

Game point Murray...another baseline duel...Stan levels with a deep cross-court forehand winner.

    On we go...

I wonder what Rafa Nadal and Dominic Thiem are up to? Not planning to be going through their final pre-match preparations yet I hope.

That could be a few hours away at this rate.

Wawrinka lashes a forehand winner to hold to love, taking his tally up to 27 so far today.

    Murray 7-6 (8-6) 2-1 Wawrinka*

After the world number one moves 40-15 ahead, Stan susses out that Murray backhand drop-shot, darting forward to scoop it back.

The Brit - seeming almost surprised it came back - plants a forehand into the tramlines.

Normal service is soon resumed as Murray holds relatively easily.

Stan hasn't dropped a set at Roland Garros until now. Let's see how he reacts.

Murray tries to push his foot down on the momentum pedal, taking the Swiss to deuce after some more logic-defying defending.

But the half-chance disappears almost as soon as it arrives, Wawrinka dusting a millimetre of the line (if that) with a cross-court backhand and going on to hold as Murray can't send another big forehand back across the net.

That opening tie-break had more drama than an EastEnders omnibus.

Murray is after a more low-key start to the second set, and that's what he appears to be getting as he rattles off three quick points to go 40-0 ahead.

Stan gets one back as Muzza misfires a backhand, but normal service is resumed from the Brit as Wawrinka dumps a backhand into the net.

A tie-break worth the admission price alone, and after Wawrinka's catalogue of rasping winners it was a Murray speciality, the defensive lob, that proved crucial. Twice he sent them towering as high as the Chatrier stands when all seemed lost, both times he went on to win the point. Fist pumps, roars, volleys and lobs, it had the lot.

That's a huge set because it's such a battle, nip and tuck, and a couple of points here and there make the difference.

Murray's defensive work and a couple of rash shots from Wawrinka saw Murray come through.

Murray has been a bit up and down in this tournament but he knows you cannot let up at all in this match.

Can Stan put that wasted set point behind him?

Good first serve, right onto the centre line. Murray is scampering, left and right.

What a lob! And the perfect follow up.

Quite a change around. Set point Murray...

That was a shocker from Wawrinka. He had a regulation backhand but the tension is mighty high and he hit it into the bottom half of the net.

Set point Stan then. And he's serving for it.

First serve well wide of the T, Murray pouncing on the second serve. Wawrinka rocks backwards, knocking a weak backhand into the net.

What is going on here? So many breaks.

Stan sets up the first set point! Despite brilliant volleying from Murray, Stan finds the winner at the net.

A huge roar. A huge fist pump from the Swiss.

    Set point Wawrinka...

    *Murray 6-6 (5-5) Wawrinka

Two service holds will do for Murray. He blows the first one. He misjudges a Wawrinka return, letting him back in the rally and the Swiss hits a winner.

It takes a lot of guts and confidence to be able to strike the ball this hard at this stage of a match. It's not for the faint-hearted.
