Don't let your concentration drop, Andy. He falls 0-30 behind in his first service game.

Good serving gets him back on terms. 30-30. Remarkably the last point was Murray's first ace of the match.

Chatrier likes that one. Stan goes for a big return but Murray just calming places a backhand down the line for a winner. Polite applause and a hint of a 'woah'.

    Murray holds.

    *Murray 7-6 (8-6) 3-6 7-5 0-1 Wawrinka

Murray takes a little breather at the start of this set, not putting as much into every point.

That's fine. There are bigger battles to come and it was good serving from Wawrinka.

    He holds comfortably.

As Piers says, Murray looked in real danger at one point there.

He just never knows when he is beaten, chasing down every ball.

Muzza's style makes a brilliant spectacle but it must be tough on the legs.

Into a fourth hour we go...

That is Andy Murray's career in a nutshell. Up and down.

We haven't seen him grumbling even when things haven't been going his way. He just hung in there. Wawrinka just could not put him away.

If the first half of the match was about Wawrinka's pure shot-making brilliance, the last half hour has seen Murray draw as many gasps from the crowd for his breathtaking defence. He is also now hitting the ball harder and deeper than in the early stages, pushing the Swiss around at times as he did in last year's semi-final. From 0-3 down and seven games in a row, that set goes right up there among the best he's won.

Team Murray get to their feet as one - well, not Lendl, obviously - with wife Kim among the fist shakers as their man takes charge.

Stan nets. Murray shakes his racquet in the direction of his team.

    He has the third set.

Murray is taking Stan's legs away. The Swiss goes for a big shot from way out wide on the court. Unsurprisingly it goes long.

And another point for Murray. "Come on," he shouts.

    Two set points...

Slightly cheeky, almost a lazy type of volley. It just shows you the skill Murray has in his hands at the net.

That is beautiful. If Pat Cash doesn't think Pat Cash has good touch at the net, Murray certainly does.

    What a volley. 15-15.

Play is briefly held up by a Mexican wave in the crowd. Murray just wants to get on with it. He is itching to serve. He has the momentum.

    Forehand winner from Stan. 0-15.

What on Earth was Stan doing there?! Murray has done an exceptional job scrambling those balls back but Stan does not have the consistency or touch around the net.

It was a pretty standard volley that should go over the net and a smash that should never come back.

It should have been scaring people in the 15th row.

    Murray 7-6 (8-6) 3-6 5-5 Wawrinka*

Both players stare each other down from the baseline as we head into this crucial stage.

How does Andy Murray do it? Wawrinka hits a full pelt smash at the Scot's feet but Murray half-volleys it back and sets up three break points.

That would have been past the rest of us before we saw it. Brilliant reaction. Can Muzza capitalise?

    Muzza must hold.

Good start to the game. He draws an error from his opponent. Stan moves very early on a Murray second serve to give himself space to unleash the forehand and it pays off. 15-15.

The former champion goes long on the following three points to allow Murray hold in much easier fashion than his opponent.

A few strange unforced errors from Murray there let the break and momentum slip away. Nerves got involved I suspect.

Oh Andy. Two backhands missed. Wawrinka back level at deuce. The Swiss walks purposely towards his towel for a rub down.

Chatrier roars. Stan's girlfriend is on her feet. Her man digs himself out of a hole and is a game away from a 2-1 lead.

Stan looks rattled. His shot goes wide via a flick of the net cord. Two break points Murray...
