That was magnificent from Coco Vandeweghe - power, accuracy, determination, and Johanna Konta barely got a look in. She'll face Garbine Muguruza in the quarter-finals.

Coco Vandeweghe: "I was ready to go from the start and that's what you want, to be firing and moving well. I felt that way today.

"I was making her earn every service game, that was my focus. I think it finally started to wear into that second set and that's what got me the break.

"I was particularly happy with how I competed. I think that's the most important thing."

On being coached by Pat Cash: "He finally showed up! I had to get him down from commentating from Queen's. For the US Open, we're going to give it a try and see how it goes. Maybe I'll get one of those headbands at the end of the experience."

A sardonic laugh from Konta as a call from the umpire goes against her, putting Vandeweghe on the board at 15-30.

That's match point for Vandeweghe, Konta's annoyance getting the better of her. Can she seal it?

Here we go. Johanna Konta is serving to stay in the match, and avoid a second round exit at Birmingham.

A shake of the head from Konta as she nets a regulation forehand. That shot just hasn't clicked for her today.

Konta saves one of three game points as she picks up a shot early from right on the baseline, but Vandeweghe seals it with a gloriously backhand drop shot. That was magnificent - the ball just floated into the air and dropped so short. Konta never had a chance of getting to that.

Konta has never gone beyond the second round at Birmingham. She's staring at the floor, steely eyed, as the umpire calls time. It'll be the American to serve.

Konta goes wide with her serve, sending Vandeweghe sprawling to return it, but Vandweghe claws it back to deuce as she forces Konta to net.

Now it's advantage Vandweghe and she wraps up the game with a fine backhand down the line! Up and over as Konta came darting to the net, and the first break of the second set goes to the American.

Down the line from Konta with the serve and all Vandeweghe can do is shank the ball out of play twice in a row.

There's a fist pump from Vandeweghe as she plonks a delicate little forehand over the net with Konta still hovering at the baseline. And that's a stonker of a winner from the American to bring up break point, which Konta instantly cancels out with an ace!

Some late news from day four at Queen’s Club, where Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares have made it through to the semi-finals of the doubles. The British-Brazilian pairing kept the Court Two crowd entertained with a 7-6 (7-1) 4-6 10-6 win over American Ryan Harrison and Michael Venus of New Zealand.

Murray and Soares will face Marin Cilic and Marcin Matkowski in the semis.

The rhythm that Vandeweghe had on serve in the first set has just been disrupted a tad, but she keeps targeting Konta's backhand to set up the forehand winner.

Big serve, Konta backhand into the net, and Vandweghe holds. That was this game encapsulated in two shots.

Better from Konta again - she's using that body serve to good effect, twice forcing Vandeweghe to miscue, and she races to a 40-0 lead.

A dinky drop shot doesn't go Konta's way but an ace tidies up the game, which brings out a polite round of applause from coach Wim Fissette.

Vandeweghe is making errors now which she wasn't in the first set.

That must be encouraging for Konta and she should capitalise on that by making sure she gets the ball back into play but I haven't seen enough consistent ground stokes from her today.

A ballooning forehand goes long from Konta - that's not the first time she's done that - but now the errors are coming from Vandeweghe as she backhands into the tramlines.

That's a fine forehand from Vandeweghe though, spinning and bouncing well beyond Konta, and the American wraps up the game with another cracking serve.

It sounded like Konta wanted the coach to arrange her transport home. She was so negative talking to her coach at the end of that first set.

She said she wasn't getting any feel in her game but she needs to find it pretty quickly or this match will be over.
