*Del Potro 6-3 3-6 7-6 (7-2) 0-1 Kokkinakis
Del Potro's turn for a beneficial net cord makes it 30-30 on the Kokkinakis serve.
A couple of well-fashioned points sees the Australian hold though. He'll be relieved after a poor tie-break to lose the third set.
Piers Newbery
BBC Sport at Wimbledon
Ward grabbed the headlines heading into the match as the world number 869, and he will leave with confidence boosted, £35,000 in his bank account and a new ranking around the 560s.
It was a huge day for Edmund though, after a winless grass-court season and having split with coach Ryan Jones after a successful partnership. A fifth straight first-round loss at Wimbledon, to a fellow Briton and qualifier, would have been a major blow but he firmly stamped his class on proceedings from midway through the second set.
Kerber 6-4 1-1 Falconi*
And Kerber responds with a speedy hold of her own.
She looks more comfortable coming to the net now, flapping a forehand to the left as Falconi goes charging to the right.
*Kerber 6-4 0-1 Falconi
A good hold from Irina Falconi first up.
She's lobbed really nicely today, done with accuracy as she places the ball firmly on the line. She's never won a match at Wimbledon...

Was that Kokkinakis' last chance in this match? Three double faults at really bad times and Del Potro takes the set.
Del Potro 6-3 3-6 7-6 (7-2) Kokkinakis
Kokkinakis grabs a point back but a big smash from Delpo restores his two-point advantage.
The Aussies fires long to make it 4-1 to Del Potro. Another double fault in the tie-break from Kokkinakis and it's 5-1.
He grabs one back but Delpo on serve and three points to the good. A deep serve and Kokkinakis can only find net.
Here's some set points for Delpo - and he needs just one as he puts the Aussie away.
A tremendous set that swung both ways but JMDP on fire in the tie-break.
Kerber 6-4 Falconi*
Irina Falconi overcame a stuttering start to really test Kerber in that first set. What's she got up her sleeve for the second?

There is just as much of a commotion when Roger Federer leaves court 10 as there was when he got here.
This is his favourite practice court, and I think his fans like it too - it's their best chance to get up close to their idol, far nearer than when he is playing on Centre (like he will be later today) or if he chose to practice on Aorangi Park like most other players do.
The security staff who escort him back to the locker room certainly earn their corn as dozens of caps, t-shirts, pens, phones and outstretched hands are thrust in Fed's direction. He presses the flesh with a couple of punters before making good his escape.
Kerber 6-4 Falconi
Ooft! A shot down the line from Kerber is called out, it looks out, but she challenges and Hawkeye shows the ball is in by a whisker!
It's 40-15 as Falconi flicks a forehand wide, and that's the first set to Kerber!
Del Potro 6-3 3-6 6-6 (2-0) Kokkinakis*
Massive ace from Delpo followed by a double fault from Kokkinakis. Advantage Argentina.
*Kerber 5-4 Falconi
Fast feet from Falconi, drawing the error out of Kerber as she comes to the net.
She'll hold, thanks to some nice, pacey serving.
Del Potro 6-3 3-6 6-6 Kokkinakis
Kokkinakis serving to set up a tie-break in this third set. Eek, he lost his footing twice in one rally and Del Potro takes advantage to win the first point.
Delpo fires wide and then a huge ace from the Aussie makes it 30-15.
A jammy deflection off the net cord puts Kokkinakis on the brink and a simple forehand winner takes this third set to a tie break.

What's all the fuss over on Court 10? Oh, it's only seven-time champion Roger Federer, arriving for a practice session before his match on Centre later today. "He's on his way!" was the excited cry that went up a good two minutes before Fed fought his way through the crowd and made his way on court to gasps of excitement, and expressions of love from his army of fans... I think he looked pretty pleased to see me too.
Kerber 5-3 Falconi*
Really good from Falconi. Kerber let her back into this set with some passive play and she's so quick to move forward.
Another cracking rally, up at the net this time, Kerber volleying and then smashing the return over Falconi's head.
Fist pump from Kerber. She holds, and she's a game away from the first set.
Edmund 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-1 Ward
Kyle Edmund speaking on BBC Two: "It's nice to get my first win. The first set was tricky, he came out and attacked me and he had the upper hand with the break.
"I had to slowly turn the momentum, but once I had that it was easier to read. Well done to Alex, he went through qualifying after a long injury lay-off. It's good to see the nice guys do well.
"I used to train with him at Roehampton but he's been in Barcelona recently. We both have game styles more suited to clay, and I've not seen him on grass before.
"It's nice to get the win. It's a home Grand Slam and one of those dreams you have as a kid. It's not been a good tournament for me in recent years but it's good to get the win now."
There is always a splattering of famous faces in the Royal Box and today it's the turn of, among others, Stephen Fry (first picture) and Geoffrey Boycott (second picture).
Kerber 4-3 Falconi*
Martina Navratilova, up in the commentary box, has given the ball kids a "demerit point" as they forget to bring out the new balls.
A second double fault from Kerber but she gets down low, thwacking the ball over the net, and Falconi can't get her response over the net.
The American keeps pushing, though, and Kerber slaps her heel in annoyance as she sends a backhand wide. She was 40-15 up. Deuce.
Del Potro 6-3 3-6 6-5 Kokkinakis*
Del Potro has his eye well and truly in now, firing another forehand winner.
Kokkinakis is seeing it brilliantly too, responding in kind, before a return finds net.
Delpo fires long to make it 30-30 and suddenly looks a touch tired. No, he was bluffing - bashing down a big ace.
A terrible swipe from a deep Kokkinakis return makes it deuce. Then a backhand winner that finds the Aussie on his heels to get advantage and Kokkinakis slices into the net as Delpo holds.
