Edmund has got to regroup right now. It will be a test of his personality.

He has to make sure he digs his heels in and makes sure his levels don't drop.

    Monfils 7-6 (7-1) Edmund

Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 live

Kyle Edmund needs to put that set behind him and move on. He played some good tennis, but it is dejecting to lose a tie-break after working so hard during the set, and knowing you now need at least four sets to beat a really dangerous opponent.

  4. Zverev into a deciderpublished at 14:05 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

Things have turned around quite dramatically out on court 14 between Mischa Zverev and Mikhail Kukushkin.

27th-seed Zverev breezed through the first two sets, dropping just three games, but world number 118 Kukushkin has taken the next two sets, only losing four games in the process.

    Into a decider they go.

Big-serving American John Isner is also in a battle, currently one set all against Dudi Sela. Unsurprisingly both sets were won on tie-breaks and the third is currently on serve at 5-5.

  5. Game and first setpublished at 14:05 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

    Monfils 7-6 (7-1) Edmund

Five set points for the Frenchman...

And Monfils takes the first of them! Edmund goes for the big return and it is wide.

After a tight first set, that tie-break was one-way traffic.

    *Monfils 6-6 (6-1) Edmund

The Briton is back on serve and once again he gifts the point to Monfils. A baseline rally ends with Edmund slamming a forehand into the net.

And then a mis-hit brings set point for the Frenchman.

  7. Tie-breakpublished at 14:02 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

    Monfils 6-6 (4-1) Edmund*

Edmund really needs to strike back here.

No chance on the first of Monfils' serves. An ace out wide.

Much better! Edmund does indeed get one of the mini-breaks back. Centre Court roars. They're getting behind their man.

  8. Tie-breakpublished at 14:01 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

    *Monfils 6-6 (3-0) Edmund

Edmund now on serve in this tie-break.

Another brilliant rally between the pair. Edmund comes into the net first and can only volley wide. Frustrating.

And again on the next point. His lofted shot from the net goes long. It's going Gael's way at the moment.

A tie-break seem like the right outcome for this match, it's been nip and tuck, both have had a couple of opportunities. It boils down to who can now take their chance.

  10. Postpublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

    Monfils 6-6 (1-0) Edmund*

Right. Tie-break time. Who can strike first in this match?

    Monfils to start us off.

Edmund gets himself into the rally but eventually goes long over the baseline with a forehand.

    * next to serve

  11. Postpublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

    *Monfils 6-6 Edmund

Kyle Edmund uses his blistering forehand to take the first point of his service game, and his weighty backhand to help take the second.

Unfortunately for the Briton, he hits high and over for 30-15 after being overpowered by Monfils, and another defensive rally ends with Edmund netting. We're level.

Who's going to win the next battle of the baseline? It's Kyle! Monfils nets.

The hold comes when the Frenchman hits long.

    Tie-break ahoy!

  12. Djokovic breakspublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

    Pavlasek 2-6 1-2 Djokovic

Great shot! Shot of the match so far as Novak Djokovic brings a tactical, chess-like rally to an end with a cross-court, backhand sliced volleyed drop shot. Yes, that many words are required.

It gives him a break point, one he takes.

  13. Pavlasek wins 'rally of the match'published at 13:57 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

Novak Djokovic is mostly having his own way at the moment but Adam Pavlasek showed he can play in this rally.

Edmund played a lot of very good tennis in that game, aggressive but perhaps not aggressive enough. There were some positive signs but it's important that he now concentrates on his next serving game.

    Monfils 6-5 Edmund*

Monfils storms 40-0 ahead, showing no signs of injury niggles.

Edmund snatches a point back, but the Frenchman holds. The British number two will serve to stay in the first set.

  17. Injury list long for Monfilspublished at 13:50 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

    Piers Newbery
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Fingers are very firmly crossed that we get a full schedule today but if there is one player who is vulnerable to a withdrawal, it is Monfils. The Frenchman has pulled out of tournaments with a leg injury, groin strain, virus (twice), back, knee and Achilles - and that's just in the last 12 months.

  18. Postpublished at 13:50 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

    *Monfils 5-5 Edmund

Monfils doesn't look particularly comfortable as he returns from the drinks break. He's had so many injuries over the years that he's bound to creak at times. It happens to us all when we turn 30 - trust me.

Once the Frenchman's back up and running, he looks lively in the rallies, and comes out on top to move to 15-30. Then he starts clutching his knee again.

Edmund gets his house in order, lands two big serves, and holds.

  20. Gulbis breaks Del Potropublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

We said Juan Martin del Potro could be in for a testing afternoon and his opponent Ernests Gulbis has got his nose ahead in the first set, breaking serve at the end of a marathon game.

The Argentine was serving for almost 15 minutes but eventually Gulbis won it on his fourth break point.

Worryingly Del Potro is being treated by the doctor at the change of ends. He's had so many injuries in recent years, hopefully this is nothing serious.

Incidentally, the winner of this match will play Novak Djokovic or Adam Pavlasek in round three.
