    Monfils 5-4 Edmund*

Edmund's second break opportunity goes to waste.

We clock up a sixth deuce, and a defensive rally begins. The crowd get more and more involved as the pair exchange blows. And they go wild when Edmund comes up with the winner. A third break point for the Brit.

But, alas, wasted again by Edmund.

How many deuces have we had now? Who cares. Monfils sends down a winner and he finally holds.

    Pavlasek 2-6 Djokovic

No probs for Novak, holding his serve to love to take the first set in half an hour.

  3. 'Novak has had some extraordinary years'published at 13:43 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

    Pavlasek 2-5 Djokovic

    Peter Fleming
    Seven-time Grand Slam doubles champion

He's had a pretty good year. The problem for Novak is that he has strung together complete years which have been extraordinary and people expect that from him as a matter of course.

It must be strange for him. He is playing OK, not bad, and everyone is saying how horrible he is playing.

  4. Postpublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

    Monfils 4-4 Edmund*

Monfils has the advantage but shanks wide so we're back at deuce.

The Frenchman comes up with his biggest serve so far and Edmund can't find a successful return. Advantage Monfils.

Edmund thinks he's mucked up a winner on the next point and shakes his head...but hang on, it's landed on the line! Deuce again.

Monfils thinks he's brought up another advantage but he's sent his volley wide. A terrible mistake. He challenges for the second time in this game but it's out.

    Another break point for Edmund.

  5. Novak in controlpublished at 13:40 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

    Pavlasek 2-5 Djokovic

Second seed Novak Djokovic may not be at his all-conquering best, but he has taken an early break to put himself in the driving seat on Court One.

Still a few too many errors though from the former champ. More than winners.

But he breaks again, regardless, and will now serve for the first set.

    Monfils 4-4 Edmund*

After the double injury debacle on Centre Court on day two, you feel a bit nervous when a player starts stretching and rubbing parts of their anatomy.

Is Monfils struggling with his back? Or his legs? Perhaps. Edmund's cross-court winner brings up his first chance to break.

Edmund wastes it by netting on Monfils' second serve. To deuce...

What a way to win it!

Grigor Dimitrov seals victory over Marcos Baghdatis with a diving forehand volley Boris Becker-style. He savours the cheers of the crowd lying flat on his back on the grass before jogging to the net to embrace his opponent.

    That's a pretty comprehensive win for the Bulgarian - 6-3 6-2 6-1.

    *Monfils 4-4 Edmund

Kyle Edmund's forehand is big. Really big. And he's using it with distinction so far.

The Briton moves to 40-15, before mucking up a drop shot at the net. He put too much on it.

No worries, though. Monfils nets and Edmund levels the set.

For me, it's about Monfils' attitude, the fact he went to Eastbourne and that he wants to embrace the opportunity. He has the belief that his game has gone up a level. With his forehand and big first serve, that will be effective on any surface.

The crowd break their silence to applaud a delectable cross-court winner from Edmund, but Monfils ignores the home support. He hits back and holds with ease.

They're under way on court three as everyone's favourite 6ft 6in Argentine tennis player Juan Martin del Potro faces Latvia's Ernests Gulbis.

An interesting game this one. 29th-seed Del Potro is the favourite but has a tricky opponent in Gulbis who was ranking at number 10 in the world in 2014.

A couple of comfortable service holds each start the proceedings.

You can watch the match here.

    Tim Henman

Kyle Edmund has had such consistent progress.

I am always wanting a little more and I think it is a mental thing more than anything. He has such a good game with one of the best forehands in the game and I am looking for him to take matches by the scruff of the neck.

  16. Edmund saves break pointpublished at 13:29 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

    *Monfils 3-3 Edmund

Gael Monfils finally gets off the mark in Kyle Edmund's serve, but we're level again when the Frenchman overcooks a forehand.

The longest rally of the match so far ensues, with both men pinned back to the baseline. Edmund takes the point as Monfils nets.

The Briton then pulls out a double fault for 30-30. It's tit for tat.

Another decent rally ends with Edmund netting and Monfils has the first chance to break. It goes amiss, though. Monfils sends wide. To deuce!

Edmund sees off the danger to hold with an ace. Decent.

Winning a match really starts with holding your serve because you can't get ahead of yourself. Then you'll start getting on the other guy's serve eventually.

He reaches 40-0 with a huge ace and does the job with a fabulous forehand winner.

    We are racing through this.
