    Halep 3-0 Konta*

What a rally! Both players pushing from behind the baseline, and it's Konta who guts it out enough to get the advantage!

Top thwacking from both players, and Halep responds with a big ol' serve that Konta lashes wide.

Halep's serve is as strong as her nerve and she holds on to both as Konta overhits.

    Halep 2-0 Konta*

Konta gets down low, steadies herself and crunches a forehand return that Halep nets.

Brilliant counter play from Halep, though. She draws the rallies out before steadying herself enough to hammer home the winner

Konta's trying to respond with some big hits but they're not coming off the racquet too well, the ball skipping wide before Halep overworks a lob for 30-30.

    Deuce.

Halep is a phenomenal counter-puncher, she moves extremely well. It's not easy to hit winners against her. She can beat herself though, watch this space.

Now then. Two break points comes Halep's way as she forces Konta to over hit.

And that's game, Halep! A big serve from Konta and Halep is more than equal to it, a little late on her shot but it's a fine shovel of a forehand winner beyond Konta.

That was an aggressive start from Jo, really going after the ball. The ball will move quicker with the roof closed, that helps her, she's clearly the bigger hitter of the two. She is showing that intent.

Halep will keep fighting until the end. She dealt with some emotional issues after losing the French Open final but she seems focused again.

Johanna has look consistent - even when she lost that set against Garcia yesterday. She doesn't look stressed about it. That's what has impressed me the most so far.

    Halep 1-0 Konta*

The first point of the match goes Halep's way as she wins a brief eye-to-eye contest at the net, before Konta gets on the board with an almighty wallop of a winner.

30-30 as Halep nets, but Konta gets a bit too over-enthusiastic with a forehand and lashes the ball wide. Superb return from Halep, there, to draw the error out of Konta.

Vandeweghe holds, just in time as the hoods move vertical-wards, the ponchos are unfolded and the umbrellas are splayed open.

The umpire is slowly wheeled backwards as the covers come on. Dramatic and slightly comical.

Let's see how heavy this will be.

This is a real emotional test for the both of them.

Here's Konta, who's stepping it up in front of a home crowd and Halep who's devastated by the loss at the French.

A little bit from my own experience, if you lose a match like that at the French, there's nothing better than coming back here to forget about that nightmare.

If you had asked me 18 months ago whether Konta could reach this stage I would have said probably not but we had seen a few signs. Boy has she continued that promise! She walks out on court now to compete in her first Wimbledon quarter-final.

If Simona Halep wins this match she will be the new world number one.

An almighty cheer for both players as they stride out to Centre Court.

Both players briefly wave to the crowd, but they're both in match mode. Not a flicker of emotion on either one of their faces as they chuck their towels down and knock up

She comes into this tournament in very good grass form. She played three tournaments - won two and got to the semis of the other.

It's where the shrewd money went, apparently.

Being bookies’ favourite really doesn’t mean anything. I’ve been to many Grand Slams where they already ask you about a potential semi-final against Serena or whoever, before the tournament has even started.

I think Konta is a smart girl and she knows that she shouldn’t take it all too serious. It’s an honour and a privilege to be the favourite and means she has been doing things well, but there’s definitely no guarantees.

She’s smart and knows she needs to focus on one match at a time. I commentated on her first match against Donna Vekic and she seems to be very focused and even with the injury she’s had it has helped her keep the pressure and focus off being one of the favourites.

  19. Rybarikova breaks backpublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 11 July 2017

    *Rybarikova 6-3 1-1 Vandeweghe

    Its blowy on Court One.

Did Rybarikova benefit from a tailwind as she sprinted to pick up a drop-shot to level at 30-30?

Woah! It's break point for the Slovak - it seemed a second ago she was daydreaming.

But no, she has awoken and broken back after Vandeweghe goes for glory with a crosscourt forehand which ends up in the gutter.

In the words of the great David Coleman, "One, one".

Jo Konta's win over Caroline Garcia yesterday saw her become the first British woman to reach the quarter final stage of Wimbledon in 33 years.

Now, she's bidding to go a step further.

Virginia Wade was Britain's last female semi-finalist, back in 1978. Can Konta break that 39-year wait?
