After three successive Wimbledon quarter-final defeats, Croatia's Marin Cilic, the seventh seed, has moved into the final four for the first time in his career.

The 2014 US Open champion lost the first set against Luxembourg's Gilles Muller, the man who knocked out Rafael Nadal two days ago.

However, Cilic fought back, taking the deciding set 6-1 to set up a semi-final on Friday against Sam Querrey following the American's win over Andy Murray earlier on.

I think, at the end of last year, Andy could have taken more time off. But he's such a competitor. He's playing so well, the best tennis of his life, he probably thought "come on, bring on Melbourne, I'm going to win another Slam." It's probably time to sit down with his medical team and plan out the next few months, leading up to the US Open.

He's still got lots to play for for the rest of the year. It's frustrating now and he has got to get healthy, that's the most important thing, but there's still plenty of good tennis ahead of him.

  3. 'There was an opportunity there'published at 16:40 British Summer Time 12 July 2017

Andy Murray speaking after his loss: "Throughout the tournament I've been a little bit sore but I tried my best, right to the end I gave everything I had and I'm proud about that but it's obviously disappointing to lose. There was an opportunity there so I'm sad that it's over.

"I knew I wasn't going to do any major damage. Before the tournament it was very short-term solutions because you want to play Wimbledon.

"We were looking at short-term solutions and manged to get through a bunch of matches and did OK.

"Now I'l sit down with my team and look at the longer term, and come up with a plan for what I have to do next."

    *Raonic 2-2 Federer

Raonic comes bounding into the net like an excitable Great Dane but Federer whizzes a winner past his nose and on to the baseline. Fetch, boy.

The Canadian snatches a point from his opponent's serve, thanks in part to a net tip, but that's all he gets.

    We stay on serve.

    Raonic 1-1 Federer*

Raonic's thunderous serve is his biggest weapon and it's going well so far. He's up 30-0.

But Federer pulls out a couple of beautiful backhand winners. Sublime. So good, in fact, it made Match of the Day pundit Jermaine Jenas coo with delight in the stands.

Roger then brings up the first break point of the match but it goes to waste when he stabs into the net. Deuce.

Gilles Muller needs a miracle. Marin Cilic gets his second break of serve in the final set, and he is now 4-0 up and on course for a semi-final against Sam Querrey.

There's a few Federer errors along the way on the forehand but the Swiss holds.

    'Tennis saved my life'

In case you missed it in yesterday's coverage, this is a great story about how tennis can transform lives.

Four years ago Tony Costa from Llandudno in North Wales weighed 26-and-a-half stone, having struggled to deal with the death of his five-month-old son.

He lost some weight through a diet club but had "plateaued" and was "losing interest" and needed something to keep him going.

"Tennis came at the right time," Tony says. This year Tony's son would've been 20 years old and he and his wife Caroline held a memorial tennis match at a local club.

"We shone some light on some darkness - and we have tennis to thank for that."

If you want to follow Tony's lead and get into tennis, read our Get Inspired guide.

    Raonic 1-0 Federer

A little serve-and-volley from Milos Raonic to get us going. Nice.

And then two aces - including one which clocks 140 mph. Zip!

Federer fails to return the last point so Raonic holds to love.

    No messing about here.

Marin Cilic is closing in on the fourth Grand Slam semi-final of his career.

At the 2010 Australian Open he lost to eventual winner Andy Murray in the semi-finals, in 2014 he went on to win the US Open - his only Grand Slam title - and he lost in straight sets against Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals of the 2015 US Open.

Off we go for the second men's quarter-final on this hallowed turf.

Oh, no. Wait. There's a problem with the balls. The umpire is shouting: 'Milos, Milos, Milos' trying to get the Canadian's attention.

    All sorted? Good.

This is actually the 13th meeting between Roger Federer and Milos Raonic - their fourth at a Grand Slam, fourth on grass and third at Wimbledon.

Federer won their first meeting at Wimbledon in straight sets in 2014, while Canadian Raonic won in five sets in their last-four encounter here last year. He went on to lose to Andy Murray in the final.

How much of a boost will the news that Andy Murray has lost to Sam Querrey be to the two players on Court One?

The winner of the quarter-final between Gilles Muller and Marin Cilic, which is now into a deciding fifth set, will play the 24th seed Querrey in the last four.

Cilic has won all four of his matches against Querrey, including two five-set thrillers at Wimbledon, while Muller has won against the American in their only meeting on grass - in the quarter-finals of Queen's last month.
