    Nadal v Mayer

World number one Nadal, a two-time champ at Flushing Meadows, already has one Grand Slam title under his belt this year.

He's won 51 of his 60 matches this year and he's the only player on the tour with more than 20 victories on both the clay and hard courts.

He also has a career record of 405 victories on hard courts, with just 124 defeats to his name.

    Nadal v Mayer

Yeah. That rain's arrived. The roof over Arthur Ashe is slowly closing as Rafa Nadal and Leonardo Mayer, after a lengthy wait, make their way onto court. Rafa is wearing what can only be described as a highlighter pink outfit. It's migraine inducing.

It's been a suitably cool and cloudy day in New York for the start of Labor Day Weekend, the unofficial end of summer. It also heralds the final week of Grand Slam tennis this year, and a golden opportunity for two new names to join the list of major winners. Or possibly two players in their mid-to-late 30s. Honestly, nobody here has a clue. It's going to be fun finding out though.

For now, all those scheduled on the outside courts will want to get a shift on as rain is forecast for later, and only those on Arthur Ashe Stadium will be protected. Albeit amid a cacophonous din as 23,000 people have a giant conversation.
