A big opportunity for Kevin Anderson presents itself. He's got two break points.

The South African hits wide on the first, and fails with a challenge, before Carreno Busta nestles an ace on the line to bring up deuce.

Anderson is screaming with rage as he nets again on the next point, and Carreno Busta holds as his opponent hits long. A big recovery for the Spaniard.

Back to basics for Big Kev.

Anderson's colossal serve helps him to a 40-0 lead.

That is until Carreno Busta makes a rare trip to the net to volley home a cheeky winner.

But the Spaniard fumbles long on the next point. It's called out by the umpire, and although Carreno Busta challenges, he's already back in his seat for a drink so it doesn't look too hopeful.

Nope, it's well long. Anderson holds.

Even though Kevin Anderson cranks down a 131 mph serve, Pablo Carreno Busta is getting his racquet onto it, chipping back and getting into a rally where he is the superior player.

He is anticipating well where Anderson is going to play and hitting the ball cleanly himself as you saw with that final winner down the line.

  7. Carreno Busta breaks backpublished at 22:18 British Summer Time 8 September 2017

    Anderson 4-6 3-2 Carreno Busta*

Carreno Busta wrestles back the attention at Flushing Meadows with a glorious cross-court winner which sails past Anderson at lightning pace.

His reactions receive more plaudits with an arrow-straight forehand winner for 15-30.

And then Anderson dishes up two break points with a long forehand.

The first is saved but no such luck on the second. Carreno Busta finds another winner down the side of Anderson and breaks back immediately.

That was a great game from Kevin Anderson. He did a great job of running around to keep the ball on his heavy forehand.

Pablo Carreno Busta had been trying to train his fire on the weaker backhand, but Anderson refused to give him a look at it.

Anderson gets a bit of a talking to from the umpire after getting a little too much activity from his coaching box.

The big South African goes on to bring up his first two break points of the match, so perhaps it wasn't needed after all.

Carreno Busta saves one with a big serve, but Anderson pulls out the break with a whipping forehand. A vast improvement from the 31-year-old!

Kevin Anderson cannot afford to have even one loose game because Pablo Carreno Busta is playing so solidly.

The Spaniard is not giving away free points. He doesn't have the power to blow Anderson off the court, but he can starve him of chances with relentlessly accurate tennis.

After sending one return up into the fancy boxes, Anderson is given a little reprive when Carreno Busta nets for 30-15.

But another error from the South African hands Carreno Busta two set points.

The Spaniard can't do much in this game. At 40-0, he flips a forehand against the net and although it clears it, the ball bounces wide.

Anderson makes his opponent serve for the set.
