    Kyrgios 7-6 (7-5) 3-4 Tsonga*

Advantage Tsonga, but a big serve to the right from Kyrgios takes it back to parity.

Ace! That gets the crowd going and Kyrgios holds. It wasn't easy, or particularly pretty, but it's stopped the rot.

  2. Deucepublished at 09:25 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2018

    Kyrgios 7-6 (7-5) 2-4 Tsonga*

Kyrgios races his way to 40-0, Tsonga's backhand going awry, but the Australian goes long on a return to break the run.

Hmm. Now a loose forehand finds the net from Kyrgios before a weird rally, Kyrgios trying two big shots before a nothing sort of forehand allows Tsonga to find a way in to work a winner.

    Deuce.

    Nadal 6-1 6-3 Dzumhur*

Full steam for the last 16 for Rafael Nadal.

The world number one is chugging safely and surely towards the fourth round out on Margaret Court Arena.

Damir Dzumhur is on borrowed time.

  4. Tsonga holdspublished at 09:22 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2018

    *Kyrgios 7-6 (7-5) 2-4 Tsonga

    This is superb from Tsonga!

Back to back aces and Kyrgios' shoulders drop just a fraction. A little dink at the net, and that is indeed a love hold.

    Kyrgios 7-6 (7-5) 2-3 Tsonga*

Two love holds, and then Kyrgios was broken to love. I like symmetry.

Can Tsonga consolidate his advantage with a hold?

  6. Tsonga breakspublished at 09:20 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2018

    Kyrgios 7-6 (7-5) 2-3 Tsonga*

    And there is the break!

Some more good work at the net from Tsonga, and Kyrgios doesn't have a response to it.

  7. Three break points for Tsongapublished at 09:19 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2018

    Kyrgios 7-6 (7-5) 2-2 Tsonga*

    Hello.

A superb save from Tsonga, wrong-footing Kyrgios at the net, and suddenly, three break points have come his way...

  8. Kyrgios' solid serving statspublished at 09:18 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2018

The stadium is in full shade, but they are both still sweating a lot. It is dripping off Nick as he goes to serve. I think it is still around the mid-twenties.

Kyrgios is clocking up some superb serving stats. He is landing with 70% of his first serves and winning 81% of those points.

    *Kyrgios 7-6 (7-5) 2-2 Tsonga

A backhand from Tsonga skims the top of the net and Kyrgios rushes his slice in response.

Ace. Ace. And an ace again. That's a love hold for Tsonga, too.

    Kyrgios 7-6 (7-5) 2-1 Tsonga*

Wolf-whistles from the crowd as Kyrgios belts down an ace.

Loose from Tsonga, a whippy forehand going out of bounds, before fast hands at the net ensure a love hold for Kyrgios.

  11. 'A bit pally'published at 09:11 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2018

    *Kyrgios 7-6 (7-5) 1-1 Tsonga

    David Law

It feels a little underwhelming. Normally each of these players has a role in the match, to be the entertainer, the maverick. But get them together and it all feels a little pally, a little exhibition.

    *Kyrgios 7-6 (7-5) 1-1 Tsonga

Kyrgios has a very firm, very grumpy conversation with himself as he slaps a lackadaisical backhand into the net.

It works, too, as Kyrgios' backhand draws the error out of Tsonga, before Tsonga gets him running up and down like a puppy after a toy. Game, Tsonga.

  13. Nadal a break up in the secondpublished at 09:10 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2018

    *Nadal 6-1 3-2 Dzumhur

Rafael Nadal coughed up the first game of the second set against serve against Damir Dzumhur, but he is over that little bout of indigestion apparently.

Nineteen winners to nine in the world number one's favour.

Tsonga has been around the block enough to remain unperturbed by the growing support for Kyrgios, but the party is getting started on Rod Laver Arena now that the Aussie is well and truly on his way. A crying baby might have done its patriotic duty there by putting off the Frenchman as he double-faulted.

As fast between points as anyone on tour, Kyrgios is capable of taking the match away from him in the next few games if Tsonga plays a loose service game.

  15. Postpublished at 09:07 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2018

    Kyrgios 7-6 (7-5) 1-0 Tsonga*

Hmm. A lazy backhand from Tsonga goes spinning way over the line for 30-0.

Tsonga gets on the board but a furious, thudding slam from Kyrgios snuffs out his hopes of forcing his way into the game.

  16. 'A bit of a strange set'published at 09:05 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2018

    Kyrgios 7-6 (7-5) Tsonga*

    Naomi Broady
British number three on BBC Radio at Melbourne Park

It was a bit of a strange set. The scoreline suggests it was really close, but it was never one that really got me excited. Their tactics are almost too similar, cancelling each other out as they both try to play smart tennis rather than their natural power game.

  17. Postpublished at 09:05 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2018

    *Kyrgios 7-6 (7-5) Tsonga

Nick Kyrgios will serve to get the second set going.

Tsonga gees himself up, tapping at his racquet and chuntering away to himself.

  18. What's next for Edmund?published at 09:04 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2018

    Andreas SeppiImage source, Reuters

Britain's Kyle Edmund is into the fourth round at Melbourne Park for the first time - and finally we know his last-16 opponent.

North of three hours and 50 minutes out on Hisense Arena and Andreas Seppi has just overhauled Ivo Karlovic, who landed 51 aces through the match, winning the final of the five sets 9-7.

Edmund is ranked 27 places higher than the Italian and won their only previous meeting - back in Antwerp in 2016.

  20. Game and first set - Kyrgiospublished at 09:02 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2018

    Kyrgios 7-6 (7-5) Tsonga*

A double fault from Jo-Wilfried Tsonga! The first set goes to Nick Kyrgios!

What a time to do it. Tsonga shakes his head in disbelief while Kyrgios saunters back to his chair.
