Mark Adamoulas: Much said about Kyle Edmund in the Australian Open - and rightly so, he's been phenomenal. Less said about Hyeon Chung, who's two years younger, has been more successful in his shorter career, and has beaten Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev back-to-back to make the semis.

On his next opponent: "I've never played Chung or Edmund so it's great to see new names on the scene. We need it, moving forward. The way both of them made it to the semis is highly impressive. The Chung-Djokovic match was the match I watched the most. Chung is very talented. He's clearly got nothing to lose. I will tell myself the same, and we'll see what happens."

Federer on Nadal's injury: "We wish him well. It's hard to watch someone go out in five sets and not be able to finish. I think Marin deserves an amazing around of credit because he hung around and fought really, really hard. It was a massive win for him. I wrote to Rafa late last night before I went to bed - it was the last thing I did, to make sure he was OK. It was not nice to see a rival and friend go out."

Ok, so Roger Federer is talking about capri pants and Nadal going sleeveless and I don't really know where this is going now.

    Mayday.

Federer on his decorated shoes: "I think storytelling is really important in sport. We're not allowed to put the trophy on there, that's why we have the station on there! The trophy was on there one time, but it's all good. I like the station better. Wimbledon, I put other stuff on it... the London Eye we had it on. I think people like it too."

On if he'd wear a sleeveless shirt like Nadal: "That's not gonna happen. You know why - my arms are not like his arms. I do love his look though. That's the Rafa I knew when he was coming up. I'd love Rafa to rock the long capri pants again."

Federer on how this year compares to last year: "I wake up in a morning, walking normally, whereas last year I could feel my back, my leg, my foot - whatever was hurting. The pain is good sometimes. Those five setters last year were worthwhile. That match against Berdych showed me I could do it, maybe. My expectations are much different this year. I won a couple of Slams last year. Last time here, I hadn't won one for four years."

    Federer 7-6 (7-1) 6-3 6-4 Berdych

Roger Federer, speaking on court about the first set: "I hung around, got a bit lucky, a bit angry, a frustrated, maybe at the umpire, but I actually thought the call was good anyway! I was just frustrated and a bit antsy. I'm happy I got out of that first set. It ended up being key to the match. Tomas was great."

It's remarkable that Federer is able to continue his dominance over Berdych. Feathers were ruffled early on but Federer got in behind his serve, and the subtle moves to the net kept Berdych off balance.

    The Fed-express goes marching on.

He throws down what turns out to be his final serve and Berdych can't return it.

It wasn't an easy ride, but as always, Federer finds a way to make it through. He's into the last four in Melbourne for the 14th time in his career.

Next up: Hyeon Chung in the semi-finals. Now that should be interesting!

The crowd give the players some love as Federer manages to poke the ball over and Berdych can't quite stop the double bounce.

The Czech is smart to the next time Federer tries the chip action again. At 40-30, Berdych races on to the dinked effort and plonks it over the net.

    That'll teach the little tyke.

Federer to serve for the match!

    Federer 7-6 (7-1) 6-3 5-3 Berdych*

A wonderful bit of skill from Tomas Berdych! He latches on to a Federer forehand and backhands down the line to take the first point.

The Swiss responds by wrong-footing his opponent and he goes on to hold.

He's one game away from the semi-final.

This match has been a bit strange throughout, if I'm honest.

And now - following three consecutive breaks - both players hold to love.

Oh, and a ball kid has had to remove a moth from the court with a towel.

    Federer 7-6 (7-1) 6-3 4-2 Berdych*

A 15th ace for Federer, followed by a serve and volley makes it 40-0.

The Swiss holds when Berdych shoots long. That game was one minute and five seconds.

I can't type that quick, lads.

    *Federer 7-6 (7-1) 6-3 3-2 Berdych

Federer starts treating Berdych like his pet pooch, sending him all over the place to chase the ball.

Berdych doesn't like it. Federer goes for the gentle lob and Tomas smacks it down to make it 15-30. Woof.

On the next point, Berdych can only scoop into the net to offer up two break points.

One is saved by a big second serve. The second is snatched by Federer with a backhand winner.

  20. Berdych breaks backpublished at 10:28 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2018

    Federer 7-6 (7-1) 6-3 2-2 Berdych*

Berdych isn't down and out just yet. He's got a 0-30 lead on Federer's serve.

He's going to try and bring up three break points with a volley...but it's an ugly attempt that hits the net. Ouch.

Never mind, Tomas. A Federer error brings up two break points for you.

What a return from the world number 20! He's got the break back immediately.
