Simona Halep drifts a couple of forehands long before she manages to spin another shot down the line from out wide. That is a remarkable ability.

Kerber sees her 0-30 lead slip to 40-30 as Halep cranks her energy up on her way to an impressive hold.

    *Halep 6-3 4-6 3-3 Kerber

Kerber comes dancing forward and passes Halep with a forehand, before Halep wallops her serve away with ease.

Halep then tears around to get hold of a backhand, going down the line and sending Kerber tumbling, before she darts forward to smash the winner over.

Now it's Kerber that comes forward to tonk the winner over! She's visibly grimacing between points but it doesn't affect her as she thwacks her way to a hold.

Aussie coach Darren Cahill nods support for his player from a Halep player box with plenty of Romanian red, yellow and blue.

He has been through some times with Halep, good, bad and quite ugly. The WTA Tour allows on-court coaching, and Cahill can often be seen in the role of counsellor as much as coach in some of Halep's darker moments.

He's not quite Ivan Lendl, but has understandably chosen a low-key player-box attitude, such are the wild momentum swings he often has to endure. Cahill has certainly reinforced his reputation as one of the best coaches out there, however, helping Halep to the top of the rankings. It's just that Grand Slam title they need...

The energy from these two is remarkable. They're still going into rally after rally, still charging around and stretching themselves to make those shots.

In comes Halep after sending Kerber one way, and she plonks a backhand nicely over on her way to a hold.

    *Halep 6-3 4-6 2-2 Kerber

Kerber serves, the court half covered in shade, and she's left rooted to the spot as Halep works another outrageous angled backhand beyond her.

Angles all over the show as the two rally, but an attempted winner from Halep is out by millimeters.

Too much oomph from Halep, and Kerber, from 0-30, holds.

Forward comes Halep and thwacks a forehand past a stretching Angelique Kerber.

Strong serving from Halep, spearing the ball out wide, before Kerber casually responds with a winner of her own. Such an easy flick of the wrist to work the forehand away.

    Halep holds to 15.

Gorgeous from Halep! An angled, two-handed backhand goes spinning onto the line, and the world number one breaks straight back.

Drop shot from Halep onto the service line, and Kerber has plenty of time to reach it, steady herself and thud a forehand over.

Good return from Halep though to a deep Kerber backhand, and deuce number two comes along.

The German press man who was inconsolable after the first set is rocking backwards and forwards and laughing uncontrollably - which is pretty much the reaction from everyone after that break point. Incredible stuff, and long enough to go through about three gusts of winds, just to make it even trickier.

    WHAT a point.

Some of the most ridonkulous hitting you could wish to see - drop shots, moon balls, players charging all over the place - ends as Kerber thrashes a backhand down low at Halep, and she nets.

I'm tired just watching that, so I don't know how they're holding up.
