Dusan Lajovic narrowly misses a backhand winner down the line at 30-15.

Work to do now for the 21-year-old.

The weather is looking glorious at Wimbledon, and the punters are certainly enjoying it.

At this rate they'll need to rename Henman Hill. Errm, Harriet Hill, anyone?

Smoking hot! That’s Federer’s racquet. Not the court side temperatures.

The top seed was pushed to a tie-break in the opening set when these two met in the second round last year - today he needs just 20 minutes.

Lajovic must have been cursing his luck when he saw the draw. He’s like the away player.

The Fed Heads - and there is thousands of them - are oohing and aahing like they’re watching a firework display.

Well, they are seeing something spectacular: Federer on fire.

  5. Federer breakspublished at 13:35 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    *Federer 6-1 2-0 Lajovic

Dusan Lajovic, shuffling to his left, eyes up a big forehand winner - and misses it.

    An early break for Federer.

    Hmm.

Error coming quickly for Lajovic as he works a simple forehand long. He chunters furiously to himself, while Federer settles down with two break points to his name.

Don: That's big from Harriet Dart. The medical time out could have derailed her, but she's taking a recent WTA No. 1 all the way here.

  8. Latest results - 19th seed Rybarikova outpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

Magdalena Rybarikova became the first seed of Wimbledon 2018 to lose as she was beaten by Sorana Cirstea.

The 19th seed, who reached the last four in Birmingham a fortnight ago, lost 7-5 6-3 to the Romanian.

Yanina Wickmayer was the first winner of this year's tournament as she beat Mona Barthel.

The unseeded Belgian defeated Barthel 7-5 6-4 on court 18 to become the first woman through to the second round.

    Pliskova 7-6 (7-2) 2-6 2-1 Dart*

That's better from the seventh seed. Karolina Pliskova holds serve.

Below you can see how Harriet Dart stormed that second set.

  10. Federer holdspublished at 13:32 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    Federer 6-1 1-0 Lajovic*

    No messing around from Federer.

Two big serves come Dusan Lajovic's way, before a shimmy to the net takes Federer to a 40-0 lead. He errs on his forehand as Lajovic forces him to run around behind the baseline, before the Serb slaps a return long.

    *Pliskova 7-6 (7-2) 2-6 1-1 Dart

Brilliant. Karolina Pliskova attempts a half-hearted smash at the net, and Harriet Dart flat bats it back over the stranded Czech to win the point.

The former world number one is looking a little edgy, and Dart opens up her body to rattle down a forehand winner for 30-30.

  12. 'Federer looks comfortbale'published at 13:31 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    *Federer 6-1 0-0 Lajovic

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

Federer looks very comfortable; he’s had enough grass court practice and matches. He looks physically in fine form as well. After playing here so many times he knows what preparation is best. If he doesn’t, who does?

  13. Postpublished at 13:31 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    *Federer 6-1 0-0 Lajovic

Roger Federer made 96% of his returns in that opening set.

Which is, you know. Not bad at all. He'll serve to start the second.

    Cilic 6-1 6-4 6-4 Nishioka

Safely through to the second round of the men's singles is last year's runner-up Marin Cilic.

The third-seeded Croatian, who triumphed at Queen's Club the other week, beat Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka 6-1 6-4 6-4.

There will be tougher tests ahead for Cilic.

  15. Dart holds serve in final setpublished at 13:30 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    *Pliskova 7-6 (7-2) 2-6 1-1 Dart

    Good response from Harriet Dart.

Having failed to close out for the break a game earlier, she sees off Karolina Pliskova to hold serve.

  16. 'Dart making Pliskova work for everything'published at 13:29 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    Sam Smith
Former British number one at Wimbledon

There is a lackadaisical approach from Karolina Pliskova so far in this match. She is relying heavily on her serve and forehand. There were five deuces on the Czech's service game - the first of that set - which shows Harriet Dart is making her work for everything. I didn't see this in any script today.

  17. Game and first set - Federerpublished at 13:29 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    Federer 6-1 Lajovic

And there is the first set!

A little whip of the wrist from Federer and he nails a return onto the baseline.

He's taken the first set in just 20 minutes.

  18. Postpublished at 13:28 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    Federer 5-1 Lajovic*

Lajovic is throwing everything he can at Federer, coming up to the net and volleying what looks like a winner.

And Federer tonks his response cross-court to win the point and get another set point...

  19. Postpublished at 13:28 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    Federer 5-1 Lajovic*

Another set point for Roger Federer, and another save by Dusan Lajovic.

He entices Federer to go out wide, and Federer's backhand finds the net.
