All was quiet and serene on court 15... and the gates opened. You could almost hear the stampede coming along the gangway in between Centre and these outside courts.

The Fed Heads piled in, jostling for position, to catch a glimpse of their hero.

RF emblazoned t-shirts and caps, Swiss flags painted on cheeks, even a couple of novelty hats with springed tennis balls.

Most importantly it's all about getting that perfect selfie with Roger in the background...

There is something about Wimbledon and playing on Centre Court, so beautiful, so historical. You feel it as a player, and the season is so short so some players are coming out so ready for this particular season.

  5. How hot is too hot?published at 11:15 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

It's going to be toasty at Wimbledon today, but how hot is too hot?

Well, the heat rule - which only applies to women's singles matches - allows a 10-minute break to be taken between the second and third set when the heat stress index is at or above 30.1C.

What's the heat stress index, I hear you ask? It is "a measure which factors together the air temperature, the humidity and the surface temperature".

I'm getting a sweat on just writing about it...

Watching the power of the Marin Cilic serve is a sight to behold. I wonder if it's got an extra punch today after the world number three's beloved Croatia reached the last eight of the World Cup?

Last year's runner-up faces Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka at 11:30 on Court Two today - no surprises, surely?

Planning your Monday around the not-to-miss matches in the first round? Here are the key meetings to keep an eye on...

First up, at 11:30 BST, last year's beaten finalist Marin Cilic faces Yoshihito Nishioka, it's worth sticking around on Court Two as they're followed by Venus Williams, who takes on Johanna Larsson, before French pair Gael Monfils and Richard Gasquet meet.

Also from 11:30, seventh seed Karolina Pliskova takes on Britain's Harriet Dart.

Defending champion Roger Federer kicks things off on Centre Court at 13:00 when he faces Dusan Lajovic, with Caroline Wozniacki following against Varvara Lepchenko and then an absolute corker of an opening-round tie between Stan Wawrinka and Grigor Dimitrov.

British number four Liam Broady will be in action on Court One after the conclusion of Sloane Stephens' first round meeting with Donna Vekic, he faces Milos Raonic.

And then there's the small matter of Serena Williams, who faces Arantxa Rus after that Broady match - we just don't know where to look first.

British number two Cameron Norrie will play former Brit Aljaz Bedene in the first round today.

Slovenia-born Bedene represented Britain for three years from 2015, but switched allegiance when he was unable to represent GB in the Davis Cup.

Liam Broady is also in action, taking on 2016 finalist Milos Raonic.

In the women's draw, Harriet Dart takes on former world number one Karolina Pliskova, while Katie Swan will face off against Irina-Camelia Begu.

And it seems barely five minutes since Roger Federer was walking away from SW19 with an eighth Wimbledon title to his name, while Garbine Muguruza was celebrating her first success on grass after claiming a second Grand Slam victory.

Federer returns to the All England Club as the favourite to add a 21st Grand Slam to his trophy cabinet, with the top seed kicking off his year by winning the Australian Open before sitting out the clay-court season.

Muguruza, meanwhile, was a beaten semi-finalist at Roland Garros and starts her Wimbledon defence as the third seed.

There was a slight blip when the wrong message was played to the thousands of fans waiting to be let in the gates. The message, normally relayed at the end of the day said Wimbledon would be closing in 15 minutes! It was all taken in good humour and the correct announcement immediately followed.

All eyes today will be on Serena Williams as the seven-time champion returns to Wimbledon for the first time in two years.

Venus Williams, herself a five-time Wimbledon winner, plays Sweden's Johanna Larsson, while former world number one Victoria Azarenka opens against Ekaterina Alexandrova.

US Open champion Sloane Stephens, fifth seed Elina Svitolina and second seed Caroline Wozniacki are also in action today.

On the right of the photo is a red BBC Breakfast sofa on top of a small hill at a tennis-courts complex in SW19.

Yes folks, that only means one thing - Wimbledon.

Coaching great Judy Murray (there in the gold/yellow) was on the sofa earlier stating that one of her sons, Andy, had to pull out because he wasn't fully ready for the rigours of five-set Grand Slam tennis. At least he'll get to watch the tennis and World Cup.

    The good news:

BBC weather great Carol Kirkwood was also on hand to declare that it was going to be glorious and hot this week in south London.

It was about 20C at 07:30. Yikes!

  18. The pre-Championships chatterpublished at 10:37 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    MurrayImage source, PA

Yes, plenty of the pre-Wimbledon chatter revolved around whether Andy Murray would shake off a hip injury in time to make it, and whether Serena Williams would be seeded as she continues her return to the court after giving birth last September.

After appearances at Queen's and Eastbourne in the build-up, two-time champion Murray was handed a first-round draw against Frenchman Benoit Paire.

But yesterday the 31-year-old announced he was withdrawing "with a heavy heart", adding the Championships came too soon in his recovery process.

Williams, meanwhile, was seeded 25th, despite being outside the top 32 in the rankings.

The 36-year-old 23-time Grand Slam champion has dropped to 183rd in the world and the decision to seed the American didn't come as welcome news to some - including world number 32 Dominika Cibulkova, who missed out on a seeding.
