"Mum, I know we've been planning this for ages and it's hard to get tickets and all that but..."

The quandary faced by Harry McElvenny from Coventry, who very subtly wore an England top for his trip to the All England Club with mother Julie.

"Are you both here for the whole day?"

"Yes," the response, one more tentative than the other.

"I might have to buy my mum some more strawberries and cream to persuade her to leave early," adds a hopeful McElvenny Junior.

You might have to try a lot harder Harry.

    *Konta 7-5 2-1 Vikhlyantseva

Natalia Vikhlyantseva is playing some neat stuff at times, picking out a winner down the line with Johanna Konta stranded at the net.

But the Russian is also a little inconsistent. Having earned a 40-0 lead, she pats a straightforward groundstroke into the guts of the net.

Konta goes long though, and that sees Vikhlyantseva off the mark in the second set.

    *Konta 7-5 1-0 Vikhlyantseva

Johanna Konta scampers towards a backhand side on in almost crab-like fashion and slings it beyond Natalia Vikhlyantseva from mid-court.

The Russian scrambles back to 30-30, before clipping the tape and watching the ball trickle down on to her side of the net.

But that's a superb Natalia Vikhlyantseva, hammering a backhand on to the line to take it to deuce.

  10. Game and first set - Bartypublished at 12:30 British Summer Time 3 July 2018

After a tough 47 minute opening set, it's Australia's Ash Barty who takes the lead over Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland.

Barty was trailing 5-3 but she won the final four games of the set to overturn the deficit and move into the lead.

It is all that experience in the big matches over the past few years that has helped Konta. When you opponent looks down and out of it, apply a bit more pressure.

Magnificent winner from Johanna Konta. She was leaning awkwardly, almost falling away from the bounce, but manages to work it across the Russian and take an early break.

  16. Gulbis breakspublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 3 July 2018

    *Gulbis 4-6 3-1 Clarke

The rage is starting to pour out of Ernests Gulbis. He whacks his racquet in frustration after missing a routine groundstroke on break point against Britain's Jay Clarke. He's waving his arms around in frustration too.

Gulbis comes back though. Clarke's serve deserts him and the Latvian breaks serve for the first time.

Natalia Vikhlyantseva is looking a touch frustrated. The Russian's forehand drifts long and she clutches at a ball with a bit of a snap, Johanna Konta is flying though - popping a forehand return back beyond the Russian.
