This is such a shame to see Zverev struggling like this when he has been playing so well and having such a great season.

The energy has been sapped out of him because of the disappointment of the injury. His footwork isn't working as it normally would.

Zverev always has a hint of nonchalance about him, but he is beginning to look more lethargic now.

He shakes his head as Thiem scrambles back to 30-30.

Oh, an unforced error off the next point sees the German pop his racquet into the clay in frustration.

Thiem screeches in to meet a short ball with a whipping forehand.

    He's quickly turned this around.

    40-30.

    Much better from Zverev.

A thunderous backhand that used every inch of his giant frame. Thiem barely saw it.

Alexander Zverev trudges back out to receive serve.

The 21-year-old is looking pained in his first ever Grand Slam quarter-final.

On serve in set two of the women's quarter-final between Yulia Putintseva and Madison Keys, after the American edged the opening set in a hard-fought tie-break.

The winner of this one will go on to play either Sloane Stephens or Daria Kasatkina, who could be getting in action earlier than expected on Court Philippe-Chatrier if Alexander Zverev cannot recover from his injury.

Zverev is really thinking about things right now. It looked like he was going to signal something to his team because he's so far down in this match right now.

He's still moving well but a hamstring injury is the last thing you want when there's still Wimbledon, the US Open swing and the tour finals to come this season.

I'll be surprised to see how much longer he can carry on to be honest.

Alexander Zverev, who has played more than 12 hours of tennis at Roland Garros already this tournament, has his head in his hands as the trainer trots over to check out that hamstring.

It's getting some serious strapping. Concerning for the German.

Zverev saunters to his chair after that game, hands on hips, a look of exasperation on his face. He's met there by the trainer, who gives the left hamstring a gentle rub. Then the strapping comes out and is wrapped tightly around his leg.

Thiem, meanwhile, snacks on a tasty fruit and nut bar coated in yoghurt.

A few groans from the Chatrier crowd when Zverev tweaked his hamstring earlier. Now they are making more concerned noises - it is clearly troubling him.

The German stops after one serve, bending over in the middle of the court, almost to stretch out the muscle.

Sympathetic encouragement helps him back to the baseline.

    Two break points for Thiem.

Zverev keeps clutching that hamstring. He's clearly struggling and needs to get through this. The amount of tennis he's played this week will be swirling through his head right now but he needs to clear his mind of that, and quickly.

Dominic Thiem jumps into a forehand to fire it beyond a rooted Alexander Zverev.

He's leaping into every shot not. And that proves too hot for Zverev to handle.

    0-30.

    What a point!

Thiem twice thinks he's beaten Zverev down the German's forehand side, but a big right-hand reaches out to flick a return..

The Austrian opts for the drop instead, Zverev darts in and pokes it over only to find it coming straight back at him. Thiem reaches it, and saves break point.

    Deuce.

Zverev is clutching the back of his right hamstring again. Could just be stiffness from the amount of tennis he's played.
