Djokovic holds after a great backhand down the line. Cecchinato, the world number 72, had a break point which if he had taken it would have seen him serving for the French Open semi-finals.

It vanished, as does that game. Tie-break or Djokovic taking us into the fifth set? Let's find out.

The pair trade on the baseline, right up to the point where Cecchinato dumps his backhand halfway up the net. A chance wasted.

If he had won that point he would have been serving for a place in the French Open semi-finals. The sort of moment that can change a match and leave a player with a restless night's sleep.

30-30 on the Djokovic serve after a backhand return creeps long. A half-chance for Cecchinato. One you get the feeling he has to take.

And there it is. Cecchinato wins his third game in a row and we are back to 5-5. Is the shock back on? Now are the doubts and the pain in the body largely with Djokovic and not his opponent?

    *Marco Cecchinato 6-3 7-6 (7-4) 1-6 4-5 Novak Djokovic

A couple of unforced errors from Djokovic, a sweeping forehand winner from Cecchinato and that is the break he needed, and one that just did not look on the cards very recently.

This set looked finished, it isn't, but Cecchinato still needs to hold his serve next time out.

The returns are lacking a bit of pace compared to earlier, the shoulders are down, the energy levels are diminishing. That is another game gone for Marco Cecchinato.

The way this is going you would expect Djokovic to see out the deciding set unless there is a dramatic change of fortunes.

The Italian's next job though is to see if he can extend this fourth set a bit longer. Him to serve, 2-5 down, but 2-1 up in sets.

That looked like being the fourth set being practically over. Novak Djokovic had chances, let them all slip through his fingers and Cecchinato holds his serve eventually.

Djokovic still holds a break though in this fourth set and is ready to go in game seven.

The drop shot, so many times a delightfully disguised drop shot, has often come to Cecchinato's recovery, but not this time. The ball nestles in the net and Djokovic moves to break point. However, he then goes long. As we were.
