Unfortunately there is no time to lie on the beach when there is tennis to watch.

Eastbourne used to have a reputation as a place solely for the elderly to come and enjoy the sea air in their retirement - not any more.

Multi-million pound investments in a new shopping centre, complete with nine-screen cinema, the £54m renovation of the Devonshire Quarter - where theatres mix with the tennis, plus hip coffee shops and burger joints, have attracted a younger crowd.

More students are being attracted to the University of Brighton campus in the town, while several large groups of teenage foreign tourists were wandering around earlier enjoying the traditional feel of a British seaside town.

"The town is changing," says Jack Brownell, manager of the Eastbourne Tourist Information Centre.

"It is certainly not the 'God's waiting room' it was once thought to be."

    Thankfully some traditions haven't changed...

Murray's tennis has been impressive from the word go and he has made very few errors.

But it's about watching his fitness and seeing how long he can maintain this.

The bad news is his limp is getting worse again.

All this sun can have serious repercussions, however, especially when we don’t see it so much in Britain.

The stadium announcer warns fans to take precautions because there have been a few cases of sunstroke at Devonshire Park today.

Most watching on Centre Court are wearing some form of protective hat, while some youngsters near me ask to swap for seats in the shade.

It may be ticking past 6pm but those rays are still sharp and the temperature is around 21C according to my BBC Weather app.
