    Murray 4-4 Verdasco*

"C'mon! Concentrate!" shouts Murray after Verdasco goes long with a double-handed backhand that perhaps he should have made.

    30-30.

Murray argues with let call made by a computer. Computers will rule the world soon Andy - deal with it!

He recovers and recovers well - he comes out on top in a volley battle.

    40-30.

    Norrie 1-2 Lajovic*

Dusan Lajovic, ranked five places higher than the Brit, fends off a mini break from Norrie to draw level, before recovering from 40-0 down to take the world number 67 to deuce.

First test for Norrie... and he's come unstuck. Lajovic takes an early break.

    Murray 4-4 Verdasco*

Lovely whip on that forehand from Verdasco - bet he's great at skimming stones on a lake.

    0-15.

    15-15.

Murray does a double. That second serve is wild.

    15-30.

He needs to pull something out of the bag here.

    *Murray 4-4 Verdasco

    40-15.

As long as 'Dasco doesn't invite Murray to partake in a spot of rallying all should be rosy in his garden.

He could do with not 'doing a double'.

    40-30.

    Ace!

    Or is it?

The graphics department is happy with the serve.

Another longish rally - 14 shots - sees Murray come out on top once more.

Surprisingly Andy decides not to give the umpire a piece of his mind on the way back to his chair at the changeover. Not even a hint of an evil eye. Maybe fatherhood has mellowed him.

  7. Norrie under waypublished at 20:58 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Norrie 1-0 Lajovic*

British number two Cameron Norrie is up and running out on Court 10, where he faces Serbia's Dusan Lajovic.

The 23-year-old has just taken the opening game on serve.

  8. Verdasco breaks backpublished at 20:57 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Murray 4-3 Verdasco*

    The first is saved.

But Verdasco takes the next after scampering to lick a weak drop-shot past the Scot.

    We are back on serve.

Then Murray challenges after the umpire calls out - it was in wasn't it?

    It was.

    Replay.

Now 15-40 - did that call affect Murray?

Murray said in his BBC Sport column on Monday that he tries to guzzle two litres of liquid per hour during the match.

He's already well down a big bottle of pale, cloudy liquid which I assume is some form of lemon-based water drink.

Both players go straight for the ice towels around the neck, even drawing Verdasco into taking off his snapback cap for the first time.

    'Dasco does a double.

The Scot has barely broken sweat... which is hard to do in these conditions.

That's 12 unforced errors so far for Fernando.

Murray dictates the next and then sends a forehand, via Special Delivery, down the line.

    30-15.

    40-15.

Murray was just shuffling really well there. The first couple of games looked like he was exploring the court but the last couple of games - his footwork, you could hear it in the squeak on the court.

    P'tang yang kipperbang!

Murray slaps an 83mph forehand past 'Dasco.

He crucially holds with dipping shots from the back that forces Verdasco to go long again.

    The Scot looks tip top.

One of the great things about the US Open is the subtitled screen in Ashe.

Not only does it provide updates for deaf people or those struggling with their hearing, it also shows the lyrics to the music blaring out during the changeovers.

If anyone fancies themselves as a karaoke singer then get down to Ashe.

    Double fault.

    Statistics' curse.

    30-15.

Both of these players love a good rally - this one lasts 26 shots, as Murray comes out on top after Verdasco goes long.

Think of the heat you two!

    30-30.

The Spaniard is asked again to go high by Murray, and this time he makes the overhead.

    30-0.

He's won the nine of the last 10 points.

    Crikey!

  20. Murray is brokenpublished at 20:40 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Murray 1-2 Verdasco*

    15-40.

This is a little worrying for Murray.

The first serve hasn't got much "umph" at the moment.

He then goes long in the next mini-rally.

Yes, he has been broken but these are early days.
