Joel Newnham: Konta faces the winner of Stephens v Muguruza. Should she be worried? Or should they?

Alex Haworth: That was a great performance from Konta. I didn't think she'd win today.

There was a lot more pressure that she has faced previously in the French Open, but Johanna Konta faced it down effortlessly. Looking at that match, there is no reason why she can't win against either Garbine Muguruza or Sloane Stephens in the next round.

There are not many vulnerabilities to Konta's game on the clay - perhaps her movement slightly - but I think she can go all the way.

Konta will face either 2016 winner Garbine Muguruza or 2018 finalist Sloane Stephens in the quarter-final. So it definitely won't be an easy ride...

I don't think Konta has stopped smiling yet as she steps up for an on-court interview with Marion Bartoli.

"To be able to win a match likes this against a really tough opponent is great," she said.

"I felt I played well throughout the match. I feel great. To win in front of a crowd like this gives you goosebumps.

"Donna and I have had a number of great battles. I lost the last two times we played. This was the first time on clay. I knew I had the game to beat her but she also has the game to beat me. I tried to do the best I could and enjoy being out here and playing against a great player."

Smart play at the net from Konta. Another drop shot gets Vekic on the run and Konta taps the ball into the open court.

She follows it up with an ace to go 30-0 up. Konta is looking so composed.

    *Salisbury/Ram 3-6 2-0 Kontinen/Peers

Quick update from the men's doubles on court one - Britain's Joe Salisbury and American partner Rajeev Ram have lost the first set 6-3 against Henri Kontinen and John Peers.

But the 11th seeds are a break up early in the second set so maybe a fightback is on.

    Konta 6-2 4-4 Vekic*

    Naomi Cavaday

I think that was just a bit of a loose service game from Johanna Konta, a flurry of errors, perhaps forced by her eagerness to get the job done and get back in the locker room.
