That was an emphatic game from Kyle Edmund.

He's one game away from the third round.

    Edmund 6-4 6-4 5-4 *Verdasco

Well, that was a pretty emphatic answer to any inquiries about his health. Kyle Edmund rattles through to a hold to love. Forehand still popping like corn on a hot pan.

The pressure spins back on Fernando Verdasco. If he loses his serve in this next game he is second-round toast.

  4. Verdasco holdspublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 3 July 2019

    *Edmund 6-4 6-4 4-4 Verdasco

Fernando Verdasco, down 15-30, misses his first serve.

He lands his second serve and the pair are into a rally full of slice, hustle and grey matter.

Verdasco wins the chess match, in part because Kyle Edmund slipped on the baseline.

Might Edmund have hurt himself there?

He surrenders the next two points meekly to fold out of the game. Verdasco is taking a long look at him, seeing if he can sniff any weakness.

It seems there have been more breaks than at a dinner-set recycling plant.

An error from Buzarnescu hands Halep yet another break.

That game should give Kyle Edmund a little bit of momentum.

It was a poor previous game but he recovered, with a little bit of help from his opponent, and held his serve.

More from Andy Murray on partnering Serena Williams in the mixed doubles:

"I was talking to my wife about it and, with everything that has gone on over the past couple of years, you don't know what is coming around the corner.

"To play with Serena, who is one of the best tennis players of all time and one of biggest female athletes ever, is brilliant."

  8. Edmund holdspublished at 16:29 British Summer Time 3 July 2019

    Edmund 6-4 6-4 4-3 *Verdasco

Kyle Edmund and Fernando Verdasco are into a twitchy, nervy rally with the Spaniard 15-30 up.

Verdasco is nudged out of his rhythm and off target first. 30-30.

And Verdasco's pattercake gimme of a volley run down by Edmund to seal the game.

Playing the second seeds was too big of an ask for British teenagers Jack Draper and Paul Jubb.

They lost in straight sets to Colombians Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah in the men's doubles first round.

Henman Hill/Murray Mound is currently Kylemanjaro (sorry not sorry!) as hundreds of people bask in the sunshine and watch the British number one on the big screen outside Court One.

According to the weather forecast, today was meant to be slightly cooler than previous day. You know, just a chilly 20C.

I can confirm it is HOT.

No need to apologies for that one...bien joue Katie.

  11. Buzarnescu breaks backpublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 3 July 2019

    Halep 6-3 4-6 3-2 Buzarnescu*

Mihaela Buzarnescu produces an absolute dambuster of a forehand winner to bring up two break points.

Seventh seed Simona Halep saves the first with an ace but she then goes long.

This is a spirited display from the world number 53.

Andy Murray has just finished practising with his doubles partner. No, not that one. The other one.

After his hit with Pierre-Hugues Herbert, the Scot was asked about the news he will play with Serena Williams in the mixed doubles.

"It is something I may never get the chance to do again.

"The chance to play with her is brilliant and not something I expected to happen.

"She felt fine after her match yesterday, I saw her briefly today and she's up for it."

  13. Verdasco holdspublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 3 July 2019

    *Edmund 6-4 6-4 3-3 Verdasco

Kyle Edmund's forehand flies long at 30-30 to groans from the home fans.

The Yorkshireman does well to reach one out well wide in the next rally, But he is so far out of shot that all Fernando Verdasco needs to do is put cat-gut to ball.

He does, the ball plops into open court and the game is his.

Kyle Edmund has to banish thoughts of that last game.

And he has to remember he's two sets up and on serve in the third set. He'd have taken this position before the match started.

    Edmund 6-4 6-4 3-2 *Verdasco

From 40-0 up, Kyle Edmund has contrived to kamikaze his way to a broken serve.

    His forehand drifts long.

Fernando Verdasco is back on parity in the third set. That was a game to put through the mental shredder and never see again for Kyle Edmund.

  19. Edmund saves break point, faces anotherpublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 3 July 2019

    *Edmund 6-4 6-4 3-1 Verdasco

Kyle Edmund builds a 40-0 lead and then decides he is going to use his vantage point to blast his opponent to submission.

Three times he goes for the whitewash, attempting to bring the rally and the game to an early end.

Three times he misses his mark.

    Make that four.

Suddenly Fernando Verdasco has a break point...
