Third seed Karolina Pliskova is among the favourites to win the women's singles at the US Open and started her bid for a first Grand Slam victory with a straight-set win over fellow Czech Tereza Martincova.

She is exciting to watch and plays a great brand of tennis. It's brilliant scenes in her box. It's great sportsmanship too as she claps off Potapova. It's obvious who the star of the show is.

It's a great atmosphere in here and it's a big job now for Potapova. I thought Coco was going to run away with it. It was a smart move from Potapova to take a medical timeout. I'm not saying it was untoward, but smart.

Gauff's backhand creeps over the net, but Potapova's reply doesn't have the same fate as it fails to make it over.

This is what is great. Potapova has risen her game as well. I thought she could have gone away in this final set. She had the trainer on at 4-1 down but now she's 4-4! This is exactly what we want. Let's just remind ourselves that this is two junior players.
