It was like a One Direction in Coco Gauff's first doubles match, it's incredible - she is very good for this sport. We ended on a positive, she still has the doubles to go.

Coco and Osaka hug once more before the teenager heads down the tunnel. Osaka goes over to the crowd to sign some giant tennis balls and take a few selfies.

These two are just awesome aren't they?

"I don't think I'm a mentor," Naomi Osaka jokes. She then turns to Coco's box and says a few words - "I don't want to cry either".

"You guys raised an amazing player. I used to see you guys training in the same place as us. The both of us made it and are working as hard as we can. I think you guys are amazing and Coco is amazing.

"I think this is the most focused I have been since Australia. (Turns to Coco) I am sorry for playing you in this mentality. It was super fun.

"(To the crowd) Thanks for coming out, the energy was crazy even though it wasn't really for me!

"I have watched her [Coco] play a couple of times and always thought she was an incredible mover. It was an incredible atmosphere too.

Asked about her next match: "My brain's not working anymore, sorry."

  5. 'I'm going to learn a lot from this'published at 01:28 British Summer Time 1 September 2019

    Osaka 6-3 6-0 Gauff

Here is an emotional Coco Gauff: "She (Osaka) told me that I did amazing and good luck and asked if I could do the on-court interview with her, I said 'no' because I knew I would cry the whole time, but she encouraged me to do it.

"It was amazing, she did amazing and I am going to learn a lot from this match. She has been so sweet to me, so thank you for this."

On her doubles match coming up: "I'm super excited and I love playing doubles. Once again thank you Naomi, I don't want people to think I am trying to take this moment away from her because she really deserves it."

There's a warm embrace at the net as Osaka comforts Coco. The 21-year-old (yes, she's young too!) walks over to Coco's chair and gives her some words of advice.

"I'm going to cry", says Coco.

"No, no. It's better to do it here than in the showers on your own."

  11. 'A circus following Gauff'published at 01:19 British Summer Time 1 September 2019

    *Osaka 6-3 5-0 Gauff

    Gigi Salmon
    BBC Radio 5 Live

Naomi Osaka is playing a clean, clean game of tennis.

She is the winner of two Grand Slam titles but I cannot tell you the buzz there is around Gauff, there are rows and rows of people in her box - it's like a circus following her.

She's come through two rounds to get to this stage and what has impressed me is how she has looked strong and focused - she would be a great poker player.

It's quite incredible. She's very intelligent, she is a 15-year-old on one level but is very mature.

She hasn't played badly, but she is playing the world number one. She is a star of the future and we will see so much more of Coco Gauff.

Nice! A sliced drop shot deceives Osaka but Coco then pulls her backhand long. The American responds with a stunning backhand down the line.

It's probably her best shot of the night! "COME ON!" she screams.

Uh-oh. Another double-fault. Her seventh. Back to deuce...

The 'full house' crowd collectively roar as Coco smashes a winner. Osaka's lob then has too much on it and the Japanese clutches her racquet behind her head.

A fourth double-fault deflates the crowd and Osaka pounces, moving up the court before edging a volley over the cords. 30-30.

This will help! Coco hits a clean forehand winner and raises a small fist. Osaka's backhand drops inches wide but the top seed then smashes an ace.

Coco responds with a superb backhand - roaring herself on as she slaps her thighs. Deuce.

15-year-old Coco Gauff is, understandably, feeling the pressure on Arthur Ashe. She's a set and two breaks down against the world number one and defending champion.

It will take something truly special for her to come back. But she's still so young!

We've not seen this often. Coco is struggling to cope. She looks up helplessly as Osaka gets the break at the first time of asking.
