    Nadal 1-0 Chung*

No easing into this one for Chung Hyeon. He's put on the back foot immediately by the punchy serving of Rafael Nadal.

The Spaniard sizzles to 40-0 and then watches the South Korean zip a forehand long.

    Nadal v Chung

Rafa is sporting a vest today, sun's out... etc. A lovely light purple, some might call it lilac? Complemented by the traditional headband.

He's almost like a tennis racquet-wielding Teenage Mutant Hero Turtle.

Chung Hyeon is the world number 170, but won't be being underestimated by Rafael Nadal.

Some of you may remember the South Korean enjoying a run to the Australian Open semi-final last year, where he withdrew after almost two sets against Roger Federer after suffering from blisters on his feet.

Chung beat Novak Djokovic to reach that stage and in April made his way into the top 20 for the first time.

But injury struggles have since the seen the bespectacled 23-year-old slide down the rankings.

    Osaka v Gauff

Also tonight, although you'll have to stay up late for this one, defending champion Naomi Osaka and teenage sensation Coco Gauff meet on Arthur Ashe.

Gauff, 15, became a household name when she reached the fourth round at Wimbledon before losing to eventual champion Simona Halep.

Japan's Osaka, meanwhile, is just 21 herself but won the first of her successive Grand Slams at Flushing Meadows last year when she beat Serena Williams in the final.

The world number one followed it up by clinching the Australian Open in January.

Yes, world number two Rafael Nadal didn't have to break sweat to make the second round after opponent Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis was forced to withdraw from the tournament with a right shoulder injury.

Nadal, a three-time champion in New York, beat John Millman 6-3 6-2 6-2 in his opening match and has a favourable draw, with long-time rivals Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer on the opposite half.

However, he faces a player in round three who has already knocked out a Spaniard this week.

South Korean qualifier Chung Hyeon went two sets down against Fernando Verdasco in the last round, but fought back to win 1-6 2-6 7-5 6-3 7-6 (7-3).

However, Chung has spent 11 hours on court so far this tournament. Nadal? Just two.
