I imagine Kerber is reeling about the manner Pliskova is taking this match on and the strategy she is using.

Pliskova is also returning very well and that must be a surprise to Kerber.

    No she cannot!

That was a game packed with just about everything but Pliskova is one game from the first set.

Some brilliant exchanges and Kerber's distribution is getting better but the Wimbledon champion is also guilty of some sloppy play.

    Pliskova 4-1 Kerber*

    Fightback on for Kerber?

That's more like it from the Wimbledon champion as she shows her battling qualities for the first time. Where has she been hiding?

Kerber should be feeling fresher after progressing from the semi-final without having to hit a ball after her Tunisian opponent Ons Jabeur withdrew with an ankle injury.

Kerber must be reeling right now. Pliskova is playing to perfection tactically and this set looks done now after 15 minutes.

Fifteen minutes in and Karolina Pliskova is storming away with it.

Better by Angelique Kerber who fights back from three points down in the fourth game but she cannot stop a rampaging Pliskova.

This first set looks all but over already...

    Pliskova 3-0 Kerber*

Karolina Pliskova only needed 56 minutes to win her semi-final and she's made a flying start here.

She's pumped. Kerber needs to respond.

  13. 'Pliskova must attack'published at 12:44 British Summer Time 29 June 2019

    Sam Smith
Former British number one on BBC TV at Eastbourne

Pliskova played with great depth on her shots in that game.

She's not as versatile as Kerber around the court and has to play front-foot tennis and attack.

  16. Pliskova's serve the key weaponpublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 29 June 2019

    Anne Keothavong
Britain's Fed Cup captain on BBC One

Karolina Pliskova's serve is very difficult to read because she has such a consistent ball toss. It's not the fastest serve in the game but she hits her spots.

Her game revolves around her serve and she has a lot more confidence about her game if her serve is working well.

  18. 'Great server v great returner'published at 12:37 British Summer Time 29 June 2019

    Sam Smith
Former British number one on BBC One at Eastbourne

This is the great server against one of the great returners. Kerber gets so low on her shots and that is such an advantage where the ball comes through knee-high.

Angelique Kerber has won the toss and the players are warming up in the blazing sunshine on the south coast.

There are umbrellas in the crowd but there isn't a cloud in the sky.

Finding a bit of shade is proving difficult for some - not for others.
