Whatever happens today - Andy Murray is a long way ahead of schedule.

To have reached a final in only the sixth ATP event of his comeback is remarkable; especially as this is his fourth week in a row on the road.

But Wawrinka will provide a formidable final hurdle as he, too, seeks a first title since surgery which threatened to end his career.

    Wawrinka 1-0 Murray*

Andy Murray wasn't at his most fluent on serve yesterday - he's been having a slight problem with a niggly right elbow.

Some dogged Murray defence is undone by a gorgeous backhand down the line from Stan Wawrinka, and another peach of a forehand goes blasting past Murray.

    0-30...

    Wawrinka v Murray

It was two years ago, in his French Open semi-final against Stan Wawrinka, that Andy Murray first felt that troublesome hip injury.

Wawrinka came through that one 6-7 (6-8) 6-3 5-7 7-6 (7-3) 6-1 but the Swiss has had his own injury problems since.

A knee injury disrupted his 2017 and 2018 seasons but he has enjoyed more success in 2019, including knocking out defending champion Novak Djokovic at the US Open.

Murray, playing in only his second competitive match since his first hip surgery, came through 6-1 6-3.

This is the first time this pair have met in a final since Doha in 2008, where Andy Murray came through in three sets to claim the fourth title of his career.

Murray has won just a casual 41 more since then, and both he and Stan Wawrinka have become three-time Grand Slam champions in the intervening 11 years.

Crucially, they've both got better haircuts since then...
