    Djokovic 3-5 Federer*

Roger Federer lets fly with his backhand, but he spears it long, and Novak Djokovic has a chance to close this service game out.

Federer will have to serve this set out.

Federer is coming up with a very strong response to Djokovic's serves but they shouldn't be so bewildering to Djokovic that he can't get the ball back into play.

Down comes the Djokovic serve - and Federer wallops it away for a winner!

Djokovic gets himself on the board - and almost charges into the net - with a dab of a winner for 15-30, before Federer plants a short backhand into the net.

A brilliant serve from Djokovic puts him in front for the first time in this game, but that's an easy backhand for the Serb and he's missed it by a yard.

    Deuce.

Ace. Volley winner. Ace. Service winner.

Holding serve to love, the Roger Federer way. Novak Djokovic will serve to stay in this set.

Having to come back from 0-40 is not a nice position to be in. It's very stressful out there.

Having said that earlier about the Serbian contingent, Roger Federer is not short of backing.

The most popular tennis player of all-time (don't @ me) has legions of fans wherever he goes. This is no exception.

Federer probably has a larger share of fans here, although the #NoleFam tend to chant/shout louder.

However, it is the Swiss support you hear as huge roars greet Federer's ace which seals a 4-1 lead. A murmur of shock quickly follows...

    And this time, Djokovic holds!

What a good fight back from the Serb.

Federer comes to the net, in the perfect position for the slice winner... and he sends it long!

    Advantage, Djokovic.

    *Djokovic 1-4 Federer

Roger Federer lets fly with the backhand, and Djokovic, camped on the baseline, is lucky that the Swiss drags it down into the net.

What a return of serve that is! Federer pops the ball into the corner of the court, Djokovic blocks it out of bounds, and we're back at deuce.

And this time a net cord goes Djokovic's way!

He holds up a hand in apology as Federer sends his forehand into the net, and then has a grumble at his box.

    We're at deuce.

And now Djokovic goes out wide, and the back of the ball just catches the line!

Terrific serving. 30-40 and one last chance for Federer.

Good serve from Djokovic, and Federer can only push a return long.

    15-40.

    *Djokovic 1-4 Federer

A tight Djokovic trips his way into a double fault first up, before a twirling winner puts Roger Federer 0-30 up.

I have no idea how Djokovic stretches and flexes the way he does, but he's being bullied in these rallies by Federer, and the Swiss has three break points!

    *Djokovic 1-4 Federer

Novak Djokovic gets the first point on the Roger Federer serve, but the Swiss wallops down back-to-back big serves to go 30-15 up.

A whip from the baseline goes wrong for Federer but he serves and volleys, eventually sorting out the point with a smash to get himself to game point.

    Ace! Federer holds!

I'm confused. If it was 3-1 to Novak that would be understandable. This is a brilliant start for Federer.

As always, Novak Djokovic has got the backing of the most raucous fans on Laver.

There is huge Serbian community in Melbourne and they make themselves seen and heard.

Lots of instantly-recognisable red, blue and white flags, with that double-headed eagle, are being wafted around the stadium.

One, to show support for Novak. Two, for the owners to keep themselves cool.

Lots of shouts of 'Idemo Nole!' too. The Serb equivalent of 'Let's go' and 'Vamos'.
