Nightmare start for Dominic Thiem.
He fires a backhand into the cord and Novak Djokovic clenches his fist in delight.
The seven-time champion takes an early break.
Djokovic 1-0 Thiem*
Oh what a rally. Skidding around the blue surface on both sides - Thiem coming into the net, playing a drop shot, Djokovic following and finding the angle to pick off his man.
Break point.
Djokovic 1-0 Thiem*
Thiem just cannot close out. Another ace is followed by a net-rippling backhand slice. Deuce.
Djokovic 1-0 Thiem*
Thwack. A much-needed ace for Dominic Thiem, but when he allows Novak Djokovic in the Serb is making him work, and scurries in to meet a short ball with a forehand winner.
Deuce number two.

Djokovic 1-0 Thiem*
That's the start the Austrian needed to his service game, a couple of whipping, kicking efforts that Novak Djokovic can't get a proper string on. 30-0.

You can see already that Novak is looking to go down the line. He sees Dominic is trying to go crosscourt and he's trying to break that pattern.

Wait... have we moved this match to Belgrade? Certainly feels like the Serbian capital when you walk through Garden Square - which houses the big screen - to Rod Laver Arena.
Dress code: Serbian red blue and white.
Football shirts, flags, Novak t-shirts, curly wigs, water polo caps, umbrella hat... you name it, they've got it.
In the interest of balance, I searched for an Austrian. Couldn't spot one.
Djokovic 1-0 Thiem*
Thiem gets on the board for the first time in this final with a tricky backhand that Djokovic can only palm into the net, but a punchy serve from the Serb is followed by an ace as he holds.

WolfPrincess: Popcorn time, mates! Should be a great match Down Under in Oz. Who will hoist Norman Brooks Challenge Cup? I dunno, but may the best man win and give us something beautiful to remember Melbourne for at the beginning of 2020!

Novak Djokovic to serve first.

I think the physical work out he had during the off-season has been quite incredible. There have been viral videos showing what he did in December - quite extraordinary to witness.
Against Rafael Nadal in the quarters he was the fresher of the two and it was the same against Alex Zverev.
Djokovic v Thiem
Novak Djokovic is the latest sporting star to pay tribute to basketball legend Kobe Bryant, who was killed in a helicopter crash last weekend.
Djokovic v Thiem
Novak Djokovic says Dominic Thiem is no longer a player for the next generation, because the Austrian has already arrived on the big stage.
"I don't think he's really anymore 'next generation'. He's been around for many years," said the world number two.
"Now already he's an established top-five, top-10 player. It's just a matter of one match here and there that can potentially give him a Grand Slam title, that he can actually get in the mix of top three in the world."
Not that the Serb is about to let that happen easily.
"Hopefully I'll be able to perform as well as I always have in the Australian Open finals," he added.
