  1. Djokovic breaks againpublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 29 September 2020

    *Djokovic 3-0 Ymer

Ymer held his own on Djokovic's serve but the Swede gives up break point in the next game as his forehand flies into the net.

Another forehand long gives the top seed a dangerous 3-0 lead.

On the upside, Ymer's shorts are cool. They're grey with a sort of geometric pattern on.

    *Ferro 1-3 Watson

Heather Watson is the last Briton standing in the singles' events, but a very encouraging start. She has beaten Ferro twice this year already and is halfway to the first set.

A hold to 15, sealed with a fine serve into the Ferro body that she can't deal with.

  4. 'Watson looking confident'published at 15:18 British Summer Time 29 September 2020

    Ferro 1-2 Watson*

    Naomi Cavaday

Heather Watson is up on the baseline and keeping Fiona Ferro pinned back in difficult positions.

She is looking good and authoritative. She likes to outmanoeuvre people, moving opponents side to side and her depth is good.

But we do have to remember she has not won a match since the return. There have been glimpses of her playing really good tennis but it is whether she can keep it going for the whole match.

  5. Watson breakspublished at 15:17 British Summer Time 29 September 2020

    Ferro 1-2 Watson*

Ferro nets and Watson has the crucial early break. Ferro will be thinking she should have the advantage herself, but it is a good start for the British number two.

    *Ferro 1-1 Watson

A double-handed backhand is long from Ferro and that gives Watson two double break points after saving three herself on her previous game. 15-40

  7. 'Djokovic looks completely at home'published at 15:14 British Summer Time 29 September 2020

    *Djokovic 1-0 Ymer

    David Law
BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra tennis commentator

Djokovic looks neat and tidy. His outfit, his haircut, his demeanour. I get the sense he is on it right from the very off. No confusion about what he is doing. He looks completely at home.

  8. Djokovic breakspublished at 15:14 British Summer Time 29 September 2020

    *Djokovic 1-0 Ymer

    Ouch.

Not an ideal start when you're facing the world number one. Two double faults from Ymer give Djokovic two break points.

The Serb only needs one. He attacks the second serve and finishes things off with a backhand winner down the line.

  9. Pliskova survives scare at French Openpublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 29 September 2020

    Earlier today...

Czech second seed Karolina Pliskova came from a set down to avoid an upset against Egyptian qualifier Mayar Sherif in the French Open first round.

World number four Pliskova, 28, had eight set points in the opener, before losing to Sherif - ranked 172nd in the world - in a tie-break.

The 2017 semi-finalist wrapped up a quick second set against the 24-year-old after winning four games in a row.

    Pliskova came through a tense decider to claim a 6-7 (9-11) 6-2 6-4 victory.

"It was super tough," she said. "Especially after losing the first set after having set points. She played a great game, especially in these conditions."

  10. Watson saves three break points to holdpublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 29 September 2020

    *Ferro 1-1 Watson

That's a good hold from Heather Watson who was instantly under pressure. She sees off three break points as Ferro can't take advantage and we're still on serve, just about.

    Djokovic 0-0 Ymer*

Serb Djokovic, who has gone for long sleeves in the balmy 18C under the roof, bounced back from his US Open mishap with victory at the Italian Open a couple of weeks ago.

Today, the top seed faces Swedish world number 80 Mikael Ymer in his bid to win an 18th Grand Slam singles title.

    The 22-year-old will serve first.

    Ferro 1-0 Watson*

A forehand into the net is an unforced error from Watson and that means Ferro has her third break-point chance.

But, just like the first two, Ferro can't take it as she nets with a backhand.

  13. 'Watson can soak up a bit of pace'published at 15:09 British Summer Time 29 September 2020

    Ferro 1-0 Watson*

    Naomi Cavaday
BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra commentator

I expect this to be a match Heather can get stuck into, there is nothing in the Ferro game to be terrified of. No huge shot, she does everything pretty well and will look to be aggressive. But Watson doesn't mind that, soaking up a bit of pace.

    Ferro 1-0 Watson*

Some early worry for Watson as she has to defend a break point in her opening service game of the tournament. Her first serve is out, but luckily her second serve is a good one and Ferro pulls a return wide.

  15. 'Hasn't looked back'published at 15:07 British Summer Time 29 September 2020

    Ferro 1-0 Watson*

    Naomi Cavaday
BBC Radio 5 Live tennis commentator

Ferro was always strong when she was young and got stuck about the 200/300 mark in the ranking, which is not uncommon.

She did manage to break the top 100 by April 2019 but took a few years to break though. But she hasn't looked back since. She has won a couple of titles on clay and she's now in the top 50.

    Ferro 1-0 Watson*

A pretty straight-forward start to the match for the 23-year-old Frenchwoman. A hold to 15.

  17. Djokovic makes his Grand Slam returnpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 29 September 2020

It was supposed to be a cake-walk to the US Open title for Novak Djokovic a few weeks ago but things ended very differently for the world number one in New York.

He was disqualified for striking a ball at a line judge.

Djokovic says he will try and avoid a repeat of that incident (not a bad idea) but we will still be seeing his full array of emotions shine through on the Roland Garros clay.

"I will make sure I don't make the same mistake twice," the top seed, 33, said.

"I try to keep my negative reactions as less as I can. But I guess it happens."

    Djokovic v Ymer

Top seed Novak Djokovic and his very squeaky tennis shoes have made their way up the stairs and out on to Philippe-Chatrier to a decent round of applause from the few fans allowed in the stands.

It's been an eventful few weeks for the world number one...

  20. Who is Fiona Ferro?published at 15:02 British Summer Time 29 September 2020

    Fiona Ferro v Heather Watson

Fiona Ferro is a 23-year-old who was born in Belgium but now lives in and represents France.

She has won two WTA events and her best performance at a Grand Slam came at the 2019 US Open when she reached the third round.

Her current position in the world rankings is 49th, seven spots ahead of Watson in 56th. Watson has reached the French Open second round on six occasions, but never gone further.

The pair have met twice before - both in 2020 - with Watson winning on both occasions - in the last 32 in Brisbane and the last 16 in Hobart.
