Ok, maybe the comeback isn't that on.

Schwartzman goes 30-0 up with a forehand winner cross-court, but then falters as he slaps a backhand into the net.

    Schwartzman 6-3 6-4 2-5 Norrie*

Norrie has been struggling with his backhand return all match. He finally manages to land one in and it pays off.

    The comeback is ON.

    *Schwartzman 6-3 6-4 2-4 Norrie

A solid serve saves the first break point and an equally impressive second serve saves the other one. Deuce.

    *Schwartzman 6-3 6-4 2-4 Norrie

Schwartzman's body language vaguely resembles a moody teenager as Norries loops a forehand round and down the line.

An excellent backhand return gives Norrie two break points.

Could Norrie stage an epic comeback here?

Schwartzman seems a bit rattled after his to-do with the umpire and is hitting balls out of court all over the place. Norrie is 40-0 up.

An ace down the middle gives the Briton a hold to love.

    *Schwartzman 6-3 6-4 2-2 Norrie

    Schwartzman is not happy.

It seems Norrie swore after losing a point. The Argentine argued there should have been a points penalty after Norrie had an earlier violation for hitting the point out of court. Instead, Schwartzman gets a violation for taking too long over his serve.

    *Schwartzman 6-3 6-4 2-2 Norrie

No he cannot. His forehand lands on the wrong side of the baseline and Schwartzman saves another break point.

    *Schwartzman 6-3 6-4 2-2 Norrie

Norrie has a break point but squanders it again as his return lands long.

He's definitely given a good showing of himself in this match but when it's mattered Norrie hasn't been able to win the crucial points.

The Briton has another go though, can he get the break this time?

    *Schwartzman 6-3 6-4 2-2 Norrie

Going out in the first round has to be even harder to swallow in current circumstances. You've managed to get to New York, you've lived in a bubble, all to go home after one match.

Maybe that's where Norrie is getting the strength to stay in this match. He doesn't want his bubble time to have been from nothing. He claws his way back to 30-30 on Schwartzman's serve.

  11. Postpublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 31 August 2020

    *Schwartzman 6-3 6-4 2-2 Norrie

A couple of swift serves out wide give Norrie the upper hand he needed and he gets the hold in the end.

It feels like it's only a matter of time on court five though.

  12. Postpublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 31 August 2020

    Schwartzman 6-3 6-4 2-1 Norrie*

Norrie looks as if he's racing towards another hold to love at 30-0 up. But it's quickly undone as Schwartzman levels things.

The Briton berates himself as he's a bit too hasty with a smash and it goes long to bring up deuce.

    *Schwartzman 6-3 6-4 1-1 Norrie

Norrie looked so confident on that last point, so carefully constructed to give himself a chance in this third set.

And it is immediately undone as his return lands long. Tennis is painful sometimes.

    *Schwartzman 6-3 6-4 1-1 Norrie

It looked as if Schwartzman might get a straightforward hold as well but Norrie battles back from 30-0 down to level things.

At deuce, Norrie lands a lovely cross-court drop-shot out of Schwartzman's reach and he has break point.

  19. Norrie holdspublished at 17:51 British Summer Time 31 August 2020

    *Schwartzman 6-3 6-4 1-1 Norrie

He may not have been able to take his opportunities on Schwartzman's serve, but Norrie is holding up pretty well on his own.

He slams a backhand winner across the court to hold to love.

  20. 'A lot of shanks and misses'published at 17:50 British Summer Time 31 August 2020

    Judy Murray
Tennis coach on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

The longer the rally the more Norrie seems to struggle. Schwartzman is more patient, more consistent and moves a little bit better. Cam loses patience, and there's a lot shanks and misses, particularly on the forehand side.

He's not far away, he just needs to tighten up in a few areas and be more patient in the longer rallies. In a five-setter there's always a way back even when you are two sets down.
