The German holds to 30 and lets out a fierce yell. He's got this killer stare going on and it's frightening me.

The pair have won 139 points each up to this stage.

Do you get an award for that?

    Thiem 2-6 4-6 6-4 6-3 3-3 Zverev*

Zverev's level, if anything, is back to where it was in the first set.

The difference is Thiem has improved, but this won't be a gimme for the second seed.

Excellent net play as Thiem pushes his opponent from side to side with a wafted backhand followed up by a driving volley which is too hot for Zverev.

The Austrian goes on to hold.

This is going to be some climax.

Thiem adds a load of swaz on a forehand down the line which looked out but lands in.

    Beautiful.

    15-30.

I thought at this stage it would be Thiem looking fresher, but Zverev has gone through his wall and is looking fresher.

A 14th ace is followed by a 13th double fault.

The pains of a deciding set.

Zverev goes on to hold to 30 with an ace plum on the line.

    Flexing.

Zverev makes yet another error at the net - but it's understandable if it in the fifth set those aren't landing as true as they were earlier on.

40-0 before a deft flicked half-volley from Zverev shows what he can actually do at the net.

    Thiem holds nevertheless.

Thiem rolls a forehand wide which is met with a rallying cry from his opponent.

A hold for the German and a lift in morale.

    What a point!

Every sinew was stretched by both men. The German lets out a loud scream as he clinches the point at the net at the end of a long rally.

The imaginary crowd stood up and applauded in unison.

    15 all.

Zverev produced a wunderbar of a double-handed backhand down the line on the run.

    Break back point.

Double fault and he breaks back.

    I mean, really!

    30-15 with an ace.

Thiem doesn't seem to be feeling the pressure yet.

    That error won't help though.

    30s each.

Zverev flicks a forehand out of bounds - this, my readers, may just be the start of the end.

Has Zverev's world fallen apart - a double fault and it's 15-30. His 12th double fault.

The German then misses a shot at the net.

    Two break points.

Whose nerve is going to hold out? No idea.

This might provide a clue, though.

Thiem is 8-7 in fifth sets and has won three of his last four.

Zverev is 14-6 in fifth sets, winning six straight and 11 of his last 12.

    So, no, that doesn't help.

We go again... for the final time.

    Thiem 2-6 4-6 6-4 6-3 Zverev*

Thiem holds to love and with that takes the match into a decider.

    Has he improved markedly? No.

Has the slight improvement been enough? Yes, so far.

This isn't a clear cut swing though in his favour.
