A huge forehand from Zverev. Relief once more.

But how much longer can he keep the Austrian at bay?

It just feels like suddenly there's a little bit of a change and they are starting to play some longer rallies.

    Double fault.

    Advantage Thiem.

    Yikes!

Saved once more as Thiem's sliced backhand lands a millimetre long after Zverev challenges.

    Remarkable.

    We go again.

    Thiem 2-6 4-6 1-2 Zverev*

Thiem produces one of his best backhands of the match as Zverev's forehand goes long.

A mini punch in the air of delight.

    And now break point?

It is now about whether Zverev can hold his nerve. He's cut a pretty relaxed figure before and after matches during these two weeks. Headphones on and watching some of the matches on the showcourts.

This is a different, and altogether new situation for him.

    30-15.

  9. Zverev breakspublished at 22:50 British Summer Time 13 September 2020

    Thiem 2-6 4-6 1-2 Zverev*

Another break point for Zverev as Thiem's driving volley at the net fails to venture over the barrier.

    He then drives long.

    What did Sinatra sing again?

"And now, the end is near..."

    Deuce.

Make that now two break points.

    One is saved.

What a forehand pick up from the back of the court from Zverev. The ball drifts over but Thiem has time to have a cup of tea before producing a winner - he has the cup of tea but then hits the ball into the netting.

    Woeful.

    0-30.

Thiem has not lifted his chin, he keeps looking at his shoelaces, he looks a bit depressed. It's such a shame as we know he can play so much better.

It's nerves at the start of the match, and then as things go wrong you start to not trust yourself and then that's the nerves again.

No yips from Zverev - a very easy hold. He's going for the kill.

    Right then, fact fans.

Thiem has won twice from two sets down - against Ernests Gulbis in the second round of the 2014 US Open and at the same stage of the 2018 Australian Open against Denis Kudla.

Zverev has never lost from two sets up.

But then this is a Grand Slam final... anything can happen.

The ballsy Austrian holds. He needed that.

Now he needs Zverev to get the yips.

Thiem's forehand finds the net - the Austrian, as you recall, dropped serve at the start of the second set.

    30s each.

Out with a whimper or out with a bang Dominic?

Zverev produces another wonderful stun volley at the net which Thiem gets racquet tom but that's all.

    15-15.

The start of this set is going to be key Thiem has given himself a chance, he had no chance the way he was playing. But he is looking a bit freer and Zverev has had to think.
