So, a brilliant win for Dan Evans. Here's what else has been going on at the US Open:

• Second seed Daniil Medvedev eased into round four after a straight-sets win over Pablo Andujar, setting up a meeting with Britain's Evans next.
• Third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas remains locked in battle with Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz. It's currently one set all on Arthur Ashe.
• In the women's draw, two-time Grand Slam champion Garbine Muguruza battled past former world number one Victoria Azarenka to reach the fourth round.
• Meanwhile, 12th seed Simona Halep also reached round four with a three-set win over Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina.
• Halep will play fifth seed Elina Svitolina next following the Ukrainian's win over Russia's Daria Kasatkina.

Here is what Dan Evans had to say following his thrilling victory:

"I didn't think I did a bad job in the first two sets. I think he dropped a little bit, I still had chances in the first two. In the fifth he started to go back that way, serving a lot better. I think he got a bit lucky on that amazing point and then I played a good tie-break. I'm looking forward to relaxing.

"Coming back from Wimbledon, when I was poor, it was difficult. My focus was on reaching the third round here, and once I got there, put in a good performance. I could have lost that match pretty easily."

On facing Daniil Medvedev next: "He's a great player. He's done great here, he's the second best player in the world. I won't think about that too much just yet. I'm just happy. If I play like I did in the tie-break for three hours it might get me close to a win. He's a great competitor so competing hard will be the first thing."

Popyrin appears to be running out of steam at the very end of this marathon match while the Briton seems to be getting better and better.

It'll be Evans to serve for a 6-1 lead after a change of ends...

Men's second seed Daniil Medvedev will (possibly) be watching this and hoping it goes on as long as possible.

The Russian is safely through and awaits the winner of the contest on court 17 in round four...

Despite the noise around him, Popyrin holds his nerve at 40-30 to make it 6-5 in the fifth set.

Evans is adamant that he heard the net machine go off as Popyrin guides a forehand winner down the line.

The Briton refocuses to make it 30-15 but he's instantly over to the umpire to make his point again. The crowd simply tell him to get on with it...

Evans is let off the hook as Popyrin marginally misjudges a lob.

The Australian then makes a couple of misses, before the British number one holds to love with a volley. And now it's Popyrin's turn to feel the heat...

And here we are.

There's no room for error now. Evans serving to stay in the match.

Where are they finding this energy from! Another superb rally sends both players darting around the court, and ends with a Popyrin backhand for 40-0.

Unlike the Australian in the previous game, Evans at least manages a point, but it's another comfortable hold.
