Popyrin v Evans
Now though, it's time for us to see if Dan Evans can book a place in the men's singles fourth round.
Azarenka 4-6 0-0 Muguruza
Garbine Muguruza makes it 11 points in a row as she creates three set points on Arthur Ashe against Victoria Azarenka.
Azarenka is able to get on the board, but a final ace at the end of a succession of excellent service games for the Spaniard wraps up the first set!
Women's 19th seed Elena Rybakina has levelled things up against 12th seed Simona Halep - and that match is now going to a deciding set.
Having lost the opening set 13-11 in a tie-break, Rybakina has responded to take the second 6-4 on Louis Armstrong Stadium.
Azarenka 4-5 Muguruza*
All the momentum is with Muguruza as the first set reaches its conclusion.
After a hold to love it's now a break to love for the Spaniard, who has taken eight consecutive points and will serve for the set next.
*Azarenka 4-4 Muguruza
A rare hold to love for Garbine Muguruza, who delivers a couple of aces in an assured service game for 4-4.
Azarenka 4-3 Muguruza*
An excellent forehand into the corner from Azarenka seals a hold of serve from 0-30 behind and this one remains on serve in the opening set following that early exchange of breaks.
Britain's Jamie Murray and Brazilian Bruno Soares are safely through in straight sets in the men's doubles.
They've beaten American pair Bjorn Fratangelo and Christopher Eubanks 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 to reach the third round.
Next up, it's Dan Evans against Alexei Popyrin.
Azarenka 3-2 Muguruza*
A big mistake from Garbine Muguruza. The Spaniard lets Azarenka's looping shot from the baseline travel past her and it's too late once she realises her error. Her good work in that game is undone and Azarenka holds.
It's 3-2 after 30 minutes. Certainly no easy games in this contest so far.
*Azarenka 2-2 Muguruza
The battle rumbles on over on Arthur Ashe.
After recovering from 2-0 down, Muguruza threatens to flip the first set on its head as she lands a couple of winners on her way to forcing deuce on the Azarenka serve.
Britain's Jamie Murray and men's doubles partner Bruno Soares are looking good in their second round match.
Murray and Brazilian Soares took the first set in a tie-break against American duo Bjorn Fratangelo and Christopher Eubanks and they're a break up at 4-3 in the second.
A reminder that Dan Evans' third round singles match follows that one on court 17 - so don't go anywhere.
*Azarenka 2-2 Muguruza
A third chance for Muguruza to close out the game presents itself.
And this time the ninth seed won't be denied. Azarenka misses on the return and it's 2-2 in the first set. A real tussle.
Azarenka 2-1 Muguruza*
Back on Arthur Ashe and an ace takes Garbine Muguruza to 40-30 and one point away from levelling the set.
She's unable to finish the job there, but a superb forehand sets up another opportunity...
In another big third round match-up in the women's draw, Simona Halep has won a marathon first tie break against Elena Rybakina 13-11 to take the set.
It's Rybakina who has had the better second set however. She leads 3-1 as she aims to draw level and force a deciding set.
Azarenka 2-1 Muguruza*
Muguruza creates an opportunity for a quick response with a forehand winner, but an error brings Azarenka back to 30-30.
The Belarusian goes long to hand over a break point though...
Another miss from Azarenka! We're back on serve in this opening set.
*Azarenka 2-0 Muguruza
And after a slow start, it's Azarenka who makes the first breakthrough!
Muguruza manages to rescue two break points against, but third time's a charm for the Belarusian.
Azarenka 1-0 Muguruza*
Victoria Azarenka manages to fight back from 15-40 down to hold in her opening service game after a bright start by Garbine Muguruza.
Azarenka then asks questions of the Spaniard's serve, a fine backhand winner helping her on her way to 0-40.
So, after Muguruza missed two break point opportunities, it's now three break points to Azarenka...
Britain's Jamie Murray is already under way in his men's doubles second round match.
Murray and Brazilian partner Bruno Soares are up against American duo Bjorn Fratangelo and Christopher Eubanks.
And they have just taken the first set in a tie-break, which they edged 7-4.
Azarenka v Muguruza
Dan Evan's match against Alexei Popyrin is second on court 17, following Jamie Murray's doubles match, and is expected to start at around 18:00 BST.
So first up, we're going to turn our attention to a big third round tie in the women's draw as Victoria Azarenka meets Garbine Muguruza first up on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Here's what else is happening on Friday at the US Open.
In the men's draw, Russian second seed Daniil Medvedev faces Spain's Pablo Andujar on Louis Armstrong stadium, and third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas faces Spain's Carlos Alcaraz Garfia on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
In the women's draw, Japan's third seed Naomi Osaka plays Canada's Leylah Annie Fernandez on Arthur Ashe, while fifth seed Elina Svitolina meets 25th seed Daria Kasatkina.

Jamie Murray, who is currently in men's doubles action, Salisbury and Skupski all return later for their respective mixed doubles matches too.
