And who would Kyrgios face in round three I hear you scream? Only world number three, US Open champ and last year's runner-up Dominic Thiem...

    Kyrgios 5-7 6-4 3-6 7-6 (7-2) 5-3 Humbert*

Kyrgios is still in the groove, starts with an ace and moves 30-0 ahead.

A double fault proves to be a minor roadblock as a service winner puts him 40-15 to the good.

Humbert pats a return into the net and that is the game.

NK is one game away from round three...

He has done well to stay composed in this match and having not seen much of Humbert in the past, I am now part of the Humbert fan club - everyone one of this crowd is applauding his mistakes.

    *Kyrgios 5-7 6-4 3-6 7-6 (7-2) 4-3 Humbert

Humbert reacts well, a solid service game relieving the stress. Kyrgios, as he has regularly, claps his opponent for a nice point construction which ends in a winning volley for 40-15. The Frenchman belts down an ace and shows he isn't planning to roll over just yet...

I think Nick Kyrgios just has this ability to inject a bit more firepower behind his strikes when he wants to.

    Kyrgios 5-7 6-4 3-6 7-6 (7-2) 4-2 Humbert*

Humbert didn't look best pleased by Kyrgios' showmanship, that's for sure. Anyway, the Aussie doesn't care. He knocks off the next two points quick sharp too.

Not long to catch your breathe though. Kyrgios doesn't hang around when he has the ball in his hand.

And, actually, we don't want this tempo to slow down, do we?

Kyrgios is 30-0 ahead within a blink of an eye and then fakes a volley as a heavy return from Humbert looks destined for the canvas wall behind the baseline.

Cool or not? Anne Keothavong isn't sure it is.

    *Kyrgios 5-7 6-4 3-6 7-6 (7-2) 3-2 Humbert

Kyrgios doesn't have a stealth mode. Going all out for a meaty forehand swing, he hits the tramlines. Humbert, lifted, responds with a forehand winner and a relieved grunt.

Humbert saves that break point and then has advantage. Can he hold? Not yet. A backhand goes into the net and its deuce x3...

Hold on. Humbert is not out of the woods yet. Far from it.

Kyrgios forces deuce with some power and then uses precision with a drop-shot which the scampering Frenchman can't flick over the net.

    Break point...

    Kyrgios 5-7 6-4 3-6 7-6 (7-2) 3-1 Humbert*

Humbert drags himself back to 30-30, then smashes an ace down the middle. That even draws magnanimous applause from the Aussie crowd. Not all of them, mind.

Momentum fully with the Aussie now. Everything is going against Humbert. The Frenchman seems to nail a crosscourt backhand, but we learn it is out by a few millimetres. That's 15-30....

Anne's brother James - one of the sport's leading umpires - would certainly agree.

As would Nick Kyrgios on this evidence. Although he loves a pop at umpires as we know.

Anyway... Kyrgios rattles through a service game in almost the flick of a coin, a deft dropshot sealing the deal.

    *Kyrgios 5-7 6-4 3-6 7-6 (7-2) 2-1 Humbert

Humbert has been cool throughout most of this match, but this atmosphere must be rattling him.

Kyrgios goes 15-30 ahead and then earns a break point with a whopper of a winner down the line.

Can he convert? Yes he can! Humbert drags a return into the net and the John Cain Arena goes wild.

Moments after facing a break point, Kyrgios is suddenly a break ahead in the decider.

NK simmers down and puts out that potential fire. Having seen that break point disappear down the drain, Humbert stretches for a forehand on advantage Kyrgios and can only turn it into the net.

Nick Kyrgios has to be careful. He's already had a point penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct - a game penalty is a real threat.
