    *Osaka 3-1 Brady

Naomi Osaka darts to the net, steadying herself as the wind keeps the ball hanging in the air, and she pops a winner away to get herself to game point.

Ooft! Osaka gets a bruising forehand return from Brady, tries to push it up the line, and misses.

    Deuce.

    *Osaka 3-1 Brady

Jen Brady does get a forehand going, this time to an Osaka second serve, and the Japanese sends the deep return into the net.

We're at 15-30 as Osaka misses her own backhand, but Brady lets out an annoyed grunt as she sends a wild forehand out of bounds.

Brady is under so much pressure. I can barely remember her hitting a forehand yet, it's all been the backhand. Osaka has a very clear tactic and does not want Brady to have a look-in on her forehand.

    Ouch.

Jen Brady misses her first serve, goes for a big second one - and double faults. At the first opportunity, Naomi Osaka breaks.

    Osaka 2-1 Brady*

Lovely. Naomi Osaka sends a forehand winner spinning away to get the first point on Jen Brady's serve.

Osaka looks so calm - calmer than she did in the semi-final against Serena, actually - and she's got herself three break points as Brady slams a backhand into the net.

  6. 'Short points, big serves'published at 08:58 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2021

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live

We are seeing quite short points. This final will be quite serve dominated because the court is lightning quick and that favours the server because of the extra pop on the ball.

    Osaka 2-1 Brady*

Brady sticks with Osaka in a punchy rally and it's the third seed who blinks first, feet in the air as she puts a forehand low into the net.

Osaka is so strong with her serve though, going into Brady's body, and she holds as Brady larrups an ambitious forehand long.

  8. Brady holdspublished at 08:54 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2021

    *Osaka 1-1 Brady

Whoops! Naomi Osaka goes to muller a second serve but the ball kicks up on her and goes flying off the top of the racquet and a fella in the crowd takes a very good one-handed rebound.

That's long on the backhand from Osaka, however, and Brady registers a good hold.

It is quite breezy out there, the ball is swirling around and you have to be sharp with your footwork to get into the right position.

    Osaka 1-0 Brady*

Jen Brady has a strong first and second serve, and she gets to game point as Osaka pushes a forehand long.

That's a superb return of serve from Osaka, though, straight into Brady's backhand, and the American can't return it cleanly. Deuce.

From 40-0 up, Jennifer Brady finds herself at deuce as an attempted swipe down the line goes awry.

Jen Brady is up and running as she draws the error out of Naomi Osaka's backhand, before bursting a huge second serve of her own through Osaka's racquet. Wowzer.

It's 40-0 but Brady double faults to give Osaka a sniff, before the American pushes a backhand into the net for 40-30.

  17. 'Brady has come on leaps and bounds'published at 08:46 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2021

    Laura Robson
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live

Brady knows she has the tennis to beat the top players, she's come on leaps and bounds since winning her first title last year.

The serve for both players will be key. It saved Brady in the semi-final against Muchova, getting the serve above her head. She needs to do the same today otherwise Osaka will really lean into her returns.

Naomi Osaka always taps the board that has her name on when she walks through the champions tunnel and out onto Rod Laver Arena.

  19. 'Brady has a shot but this will be very tough'published at 08:44 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2021

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's a huge moment for Brady. This match will be all about how she handles her nerves. This is a massive step up from the US Open semi-final but I think she has a great coach who seems to have prepared her extremely well.

She brings weapons into this match with her big serve and improved forehand.

She has a shot but this will be very tough.
