Pablo Carreno Busta's progress has been similarly serene, the Spaniard winning 6-4 6-4 6-2 against American Steve Johnson.

And while we were engrossed with Serena Williams' win, Romania's Sorana Cirstea also reached the women's last 16 with a 6-3 6-2 victory over Daria Kasatsina.

"I feel good, to hopefully be an inspiration and continue to be an inspiration.
