Williams 6-4 2-4 Collins*
Serena Williams is properly pumped up now.
Takes a ball on the rise with a backhand down the line to go 0-30 up on Danielle Collins' serve.
Big moment in the match, this.
Laura Robson
Former British number one
You could feel that break coming.
The reaction of Serena - she's not happy with how things are going.
She's just made so many errors from the backhand side in the last two games.
*Williams 6-4 2-4 Collins
An important hold from Serena Williams.
Now can she break back?
*Williams 6-4 1-4 Collins
Serena Williams dumps the first point into the net on serve.
Then a massive 'COME ON' after Danielle Collins wastes a great forehand chance on the next point.
Williams needs firing up - and she's doing her best to do it. Another big shout a couple of points later.
Williams 6-4 1-4 Collins*
A quickfire service game from Danielle Collins, to love. And I mean quick. I was still writing about the previous service break and the next game was over.
She had Serena Williams running all over the court in that one.
Are we in for a deciding set? And another Roland Garros shock?
*Williams 6-4 1-3 Collins
I said Serena Williams was showing no signs of letting the pressure get to her. Wow was I wrong.
Danielle Collins certainly played two fantastic shots to get back into that game but Williams twice hit the net with unforced errors from there.
*Williams 6-4 1-2 Collins
Wowzer.
Danielle Collins is almost in the crowd as she reaches a shot out wide and somehow pulls a backhand back past the post and onto the line.
Serena Williams hits the net at deuce and it's break point...
*Williams 6-4 1-2 Collins
The GOAT (fair?) showing no sign of letting that last poor service game get to her as she forges 40-15 ahead.
But Danielle Collins replies with a sumptuous drop shot. 40-30.
Laura Robson
Former British number one
Three unforced errors in that game for Serena.
I feel like that game was on Serena's racquet and I feel like she over-played.
I hope she can reset here.
Williams 6-4 1-2 Collins*
Serena Williams goes long and that's a big hold for Danielle Collins.
Now, can she really make a match of this? She's done OK but Serena has won most of the big points when she's needed to.
Williams 6-4 1-1 Collins*
The double faults are contagious as Danielle Collins chucks one in too.
But the two serves either side of that are excellent. 30-15.
And a forehand down the line after another fine serve makes it 40-15.
*Williams 6-4 1-1 Collins
Wow. Serena Williams fought so hard to pull that game back from 0-40 to 30-40 - but then throws in a double fault to lose it.
A big confidence boost for Danielle Collins.
*Williams 6-4 1-0 Collins
Danielle Collins is realising she has to be aggressive here and some big-hitting shots put her 0-40 to the good.
A big backhand pulls one break point back and a ferocious forehand another. 30-40...
Williams 6-4 1-0 Collins*
Collins breaks her racquet.
And Serena Williams breaks her serve.
The first serve is letting Collins down and Williams again pounces on the second serve.
Collins can only hit into the net on the back foot and Serena is in charge here.
Williams 6-4 0-0 Collins*
You sense it's important for Danielle Collins to hold her serve in the opening game of this second set.
But Serena Williams has fashioned a break point.
Collins breaks her racquet in frustration...
Russell Fuller
BBC tennis correspondent at Roland Garros
There was some very good resistance from Danielle Collins for much of that set but Serena Williams was always a little bit ahead on points, and now on the scorecard.
Given how little tennis she's played since the Australian Open, she is going to be very pleased with how she's playing.
It's a slightly low-profile Friday on the men's side of the draw with Rafa Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic all in action on Saturday - Nadal facing Britain's Cameron Norrie of course.
But there are eight last-32 ties throughout the day with Alexander Zverev and Kei Nishikori among the players to progress thus far - and they will meet in the last 16.
Sixth seed Zverev comfortably defeated Laslo Djere in straight sets while Nishikori led Henri Laaksonen by a set when the Swiss was forced to retire injured.
There's been a minor shock too with Italian 27th seed Fabio Fognini humbled 6-4 6-1 6-3 by Argentina's Federico Delbonis.
Williams 6-4 Collins
And she finishes it off.
What a strange game that was.
Serena Williams was banking on big serves throughout it - and the gamble ultimately paid off.
It cost her two double faults but the next four serves just vanquished any hopes Danielle Collins had of breaking back.
*Williams 5-4 Collins
But two booming serves put Danielle Collins right on the back foot and she is unable to recover in either point. 30-30.
And then a massive ace. Set point.
